Tun M admitted to IJN for treatment of infection
KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for treatment of an infection.
According to a statement by his spokesperson, the 98-year-old former Langkawi MP was admitted to IJN on Jan 26.
“Tun (Dr Mahathir) is currently receiving treatment for infection at IJN, followed by a subsequent rest period for optimal recovery,” the spokesperson said via WhatsApp on Tuesday (Feb 13).
Earlier, the hearing for Dr Mahathir’s defamation suit against Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, relating to alleged defamatory statements with regard to the ‘kutty’ issue, originally set for Tuesday, was adjourned to July 19.
Judicial Commissioner Gan Techiong granted the postponement after an application by Dr Mahathir’s lawyer, Mior Nor Haidir Suhaimi cited that his client had been admitted to the IJN.
The IJN had also sent a letter to the court indicating that the former prime minister was unable to attend court proceedings due to his health condition.- Bernama
