Delhi civic body demolishes illegal construction in Basti Nizamuddin area

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday demolished the Ziyarat Guest House in the Basti Nizamuddin area of the national capital in compliance with the orders of the Delhi High Court against the illegal structures.

According to a statement issued by Delhi’s civic body, a team of the MCD completely demolished the first and second floors of the guest house.

In February, with 131 demolition actions, 35 sealing actions, and 10 actions against illegal plotting /colonisation, the MCD freed 18 acres of land, the statement read.

“More such stringent actions are already in the pipeline for the execution of demolition actions in the coming days. These actions have been taken in areas such as Dera, Mandi, Bhati, Chatterpur, Jonapur, Jaitpur, Mithapur, Burari, Narela, Bhalaswa, Kadipur, Alipur, Jeendpur, Bhorgarh etc,” the statement said.

It also highlighted that in January 2024, the MCD undertook as many as 495 demolition actions, 137 sealing actions, and 69 actions against illegal plotting/colonisation to get 125 acres of land free from illegal construction.

During its drive, MCD also prosecuted 66 offenders.

“The MCD will continue to carry out demolition/sealing actions/actions against illegal plotting /colonisation in the coming weeks with higher intensity,” said an officer of the MCD while speaking to the media.
