Evacuations hit two major London Underground stations just minutes apart

Green Park Tube station being evacuated

Two London Underground stations have been evacuated with reports of possible emergencies.

Travellers were told to leave Green Park Tube station at about 1.15pm on Saturday (February 17) with Brixton Underground Station closed about 45 minutes earlier.

Transport for London (TfL) wrote on X that Green Park Station was shut while staff dealt with a fire alert and tickets would be accepted on London buses.

Brixton Station, which is on the Victoria Line, was also evacuated. Green Park Station, which links to the Jubilee Line, Piccidilly Line and Victoria Line routes, has since reopened, according to TfL.

A TfL spokesperson said: “The Victoria line has had severe delays because of a train issue around Warren Street.

“Brixton was cleared to prevent crowding, but it has since reopened and is operating normally.

“Green Park closed for a short time due to a fire alert, but the fire brigade attended, confirmed there was no fire and now the station is open again.”

A “good service” was operating on the Jubilee Line and Piccdilly Line as of 2pm on Saturday.

London Fire Brigade and British Transport Police have been approached for comment.
