ICYMI: Moroka Swallows sign 7 players
It’s not all over for Moroka Swallows. The Dube Birds are rebuilding a squad for the second round.
NEW MOROKA SWALLOWS PLAYERS
According to the leading SABC Sports reporter Mazola Molefe, Swallows have signed seven new players, and the list includes a couple of familiar names.
The names are former Orlando Pirates players Ntsikelelo Nyauza (defender) and Augustine Mahlonoko (attacking midfielder), as well as the likes of Letsie Koapeng (striker), right back Basil Mphahlele, central midfielder Roland Sanou, and attackers Lwanda Mbanjwa and Jacob Everson.
SPRING-SUMMER CHAOS
So why have Swallows signed so many new players in January?
The trouble started when the club failed to pay players in November 2023.
The Swallows squad reacted by staying away from training and two matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.
The result was the Premier Soccer League’s decision to fine Swallows R1 Million, of which R600,000 was suspended for 24 months.
Swallows turned around and fired 22 players with immediate effect:
- Daniel Akpeyi
- Thakasani Mbanjwa
- Buhle Thompson
- Bongani Sam
- Mthokozisi Shwabule
- Vusi Sibiya
- Lentshane Phalane
- Tumelo Mangweni
- Tshediso Patjie
- Wandisile Letlabika
- Givemore Khupe
- Thandolwethu Ngwenya
- Wade Poole
- Siyabonga Khumalo
- Falakhe Tshanini
- Owethu Khumalo
- Mbulelo Wambi
- Mkhuseli Rampa
- Ntsako Makhubela
- Lindokuhle Mtshali
- Kwanda Mngonyama
- Tlakusani Mthethwa.
Meanwhile, Swallows began the second round of the season with a 1-0 loss to Polokwane City on Saturday.
