Rinkoffs is a Jewish, family run bakery and café, famous for their impressive crodoughs which are a spin on a croissant and a doughnut in one – after visiting for the first time they certainly did not disappoint. Don’t let the exterior of their café on Jubilee Street in Whitechapel fool you, what they have to offer inside is most definitely eye-catching.
As I made my way through the small glass door, I was already being teased by all the baked goods stacked in every corner of the café. Immediately, I was drawn to the towering crodoughs but with the classic cinnamon buns that were coated generously in icing, a bed of fresh bread and cookies, the choice was difficult.
With a huge amount to choose from, I finally couldn’t resist on trying the Nutella and marshmallow crodough as well as the classic caramel and pistachio one for £4.60 each. I was told that they were the most popular with their customers so I had to try them. If you wanted to indulge even more, for £5 they had a kinder Bueno or Creme egg flavour to celebrate Easter.

The famous crodoughs consists of a generously tall layer of flaky pastry that melts in your mouth. They are then smothered in a variety of different toppings, from a classic custard topping, to biscoff. Every customer is spoilt by a fantastic choice. The £4.60 crodoughs were worth every penny.
Finally, I couldn’t leave before trying their delicious looking bread so I treated myself to a chicken and pesto roll which set me back £4.40. The fresh seeded bread was just as good as it looked. The soft dough and warm crust fulfilled my expectations.
A regular customer, Sheila, told me that despite the slightly high prices, she stills comes in to get her bloomer bread that sets her back £2.20. She often comes in to support the independent business as they have ‘always been very welcoming’. They even sponsored her son when he ran the Paris marathon last week to give back some support to a loyal customer.

The bakery welcomes you in with sweet smells of pastries baking away and a cosy feel is incorporated by the family pictures hung on the wall to really capture the history of the place. Their customers really seem to appreciate the history. I noticed several customers really taking their time to absorb the surroundings and look around- at the quirky interior as well as the food.
Rinkoffs bakery is situated down Jubilee Street, a tucked away side street. This by no means turns away customers. The little café was full of hungry customers waiting for their slice of perfection. Rinkoffs also has a small deli nearby down Vallance Road.
The bakery’s prices are certainly competitive but it no doubt reflects the quality ingredients and time that goes into making them. This is what their customers love and appreciate so they keep on coming back.
