Passengers on a United Airlines flight got a stinky surprise from a Chihuahua sitting on one of their fellow passenger’s laps.
The chihuahua relieved itself while sitting on its owner’s thighs during Flight 498 on Monday from Denver to Portland one hour before landing.
The woman was seated in an aisle seat toward the back of the plane at the time of the incident.
According to one passenger, the dog poop was on the armrest, the outer armrest, on her seat and on the floor.
Fliers said that it took about 10 minutes for flight attendants to come and clean up the mess.

The woman had been flying all day from Cincinnati with her dog before getting on the flight to Portland.
‘She mentioned earlier, when I was first seated, that she hadn’t taken it to the bathroom during the airport,’ a passenger named Nick told WGN 9.
The dog owner later took her Chihuahua out of its cage sometime before it relieved itself.
‘A lady behind me who’s pregnant said that she has heightened senses, and so she hit the call button, I turned on my phone light, and that’s when I realized the dog was out,’ said Nick.
Another passenger, Burton Bix, added to the outlet: ‘The lady was reluctant to move or to deal with it, and the flight attendants were slow to come.’
‘They cleaned it eventually, they were wearing, like, hazmat-type clothes, and they cleaned the seat around it,’ he added.
The flight attendants also handed passengers bags of coffee to try to reduce the odor.

United Airlines confirmed in a statement that their inflight crew ‘thoroughly cleaned the area’ after customers alerted the flight attendants.
‘We provided sanitizing wipes and offered travel vouchers to those in the surrounding area,’ it continued.
Because Flight 498 was full, the passengers who were close to the mess could not move from their assigned seats.
The woman broke protocol by taking her dog out of its carrier before the incident.

The guidelines for traveling with pets on United Airlines say that there are no weight or breed limitations.
However, all animals ‘must travel in either a hard-sided or soft-sided carrier.’
The United Airlines protocol also indicates that the carriers must be able to fit under the seat in front of the flier.
The only animals that are allowed on flights without pet carriers are service animals.
The airline also suggested on their website that canine owners try using doggy diapers for their animals if they believe their pup will have an accident on the plane.
Pet owners who use the United Airlines app can also access a maps feature to see where pet relief areas are located at any airport.
