Shane Warne’s children launch the Shane Warne Legacy to help save lives with heart testing drive

Shane Warne is already enshrined in cricketing folklore but his children want to ensure he remains close to the heart of Aussies unveiling a new charity in his honour.

The king of spin died of a suspected heart attack at just 52 years old while on holiday in Bali shocking Australia and the sporting world.

Warne’s children Brooke, Jackson and Summer have now joined forces with his former manager to start the Shane Warne Legacy project in an ambitious plan to deliver 23,000 free heart tests to Australians by the end of the year and beyond.

“Who knows, if he’d just gotten this test he might still be with us,” Jackson said on Sunrise.

“One of the biggest drivers for this is because when I got the phone call and heard this had happened to dad, I was just in shock.”

Jackson said his father’s long history of philanthropic work and the desire to make sure this didn’t happen to other families was behind the new drive.

“Because I looked at him like Superman, I thought he was invincible just like other Australians did. So when this news happened to him, it sort of gave me a wake-up call that this could happen to me as well, it could happen to anyone.

“We want to make sure this never happens to Australians and that if we can stop it, it might give people an extra few days with their family members.”

The four-minute heart tests will be made available at locations around the country with money for the venture being raised through the sale of floppy hats, ones often adorned by Warne in the field.

“Dad’s resilience in the face of challenges taught us the true meaning of strength,” Brooke shared in a statement.

“He never hung onto negativity, was able to let things go so easily, always highlighting the importance of chasing dreams relentlessly and the value of standing tall in hard times. He never took life too seriously and nothing was impossible. He would say ‘find a way’.

“After he tragically left this world, his love and support have been our anchor, helping us navigate our grief. We know he wouldn’t want us to be sad, and that understanding has been our driving force.

“As the world honours his legacy, we’re honouring our dad who was our pillar of strength, our confidant, and our loudest cheerleader.”

The heart check drive has been branded the Shane Warne Legacy Test Match Series with Warne’s musician friends Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin also lending a hand in promoting the venture.

“His legacy, one of making a difference, is nothing short of extraordinary. He would love this,” Brooke said.

“We aim to reciprocate the love and guidance dad provided us throughout our lives by continuing the legacy he left behind. It’s our heartfelt commitment to sustain the legacy on his behalf.”
