Social Media 3.0: What to Expect

With an estimated 4.59 billion social media users, it is fair to say that this industry is a cornerstone of the internet. These platforms are a defining trait of the web2 world, marking a shift in how people use their computers and communicate with others. In the beginning, the internet was where people mostly consumed content without contributing themselves due to high technical barriers. But when social media came into being, this changed as these platforms offered easy methods of sending information and staying connected with others.

This, in and of itself, is revolutionary. It allows people to send messages and images to each other around the globe– nothing short of a technological and sociological milestone. However, this is far from a perfect system. There are some significant drawbacks to the current state of social media. A primary one is that the type of communication social media supports is highly unnatural and limited. Social media interactions boil down to sending texts/words, images, and videos. While this is good, it only covers one area of human interactions.

When people communicate, they don’t just want to transmit information; they want to share experiences. They want to express themselves and be around others who represent themselves, too. For many social interactions, passing information is secondary, and the excitement of simply being near the people you care about is paramount. But sadly, self-expression is just not viable with the current state of social media. Our online profiles do not represent us. They often feel more like a document that describes us rather than an extension of us. Writing messages to one another might help form bonds. Still, those bonds will always be brittle as you can never guarantee that the words you write online will be perceived the way you intended. This phenomenon is referred to as Poe’s law, and it’s caused (in part) by a deficit of physical cues and information.

The New Age of Individuality

The current state of social media is outdated. It may have served us well, but people are hungry for more prosperous and intimate experiences. With the COVID pandemic isolating the world, people have been left craving a platform that lets them genuinely express themselves among others. Global lockdowns taught many that communicating via current social media does not fill the hole that loneliness causes. This is mainly because these websites and apps do not make us feel unique. The need for uniqueness is a well-documented concept in psychology– it is the idea that, for people to live rich lives, they must both feel like they are unique and believe that others perceive them as special. It is hard to satisfy these desires on a traditional social media site.

Luckily, the new age of social media is dawning. Platforms are emerging where people can fully express themselves as individuals and share space together. A pioneer of this is MT Tower, a lifestyle and gaming platform designed to simulate real-world interactions. They are building a 3-dimensional metaverse where people can use fully-fleshed avatars to communicate and spend time with others.

MT Tower places a massive focus on self-expression. The company understands the need for people to feel like unique individuals, so it is designed to give users the ability to customize and control their avatars to a tremendously high degree. In addition, the team behind MT Tower recognises that communication is heavily tied to body language, vocal inflections, non-verbal social cues, and other subtleties that traditional social media cannot capture. As a result, the MT Tower metaverse will be significantly richer and more emotive than its web2 counterparts.

An Experience-Driven Environment

MT Tower is leading the charge for 3-dimensional social media platforms. This is a metaverse with a focus on the human experience. It aims to foster genuinely dynamic interactions, where people can share space with others and express themselves freely and emphatically. It is the perfect tool for this current age of isolation caused by the pandemic. It is an antidote to the poisonous feeling of loneliness that has shaken our social fabric.
