Travel upgrades are complete at Derby Bus Station

Derby Bus Station will be easier to access and sustainable travel in the area will be ‘more attractive’ according to Derby City Council, following the latest scheme in a series of upgrades in the city centre. Works at Morledge have now been completed following a project that aims to improve access to and from the area for both citizens and visitors.

Upgrades to Morledge include upgraded footways around Derby Bus Station and Traffic Street to make it easier to travel between the city centre and Pride Park. Paths have been upgraded with new cycle links around the area to make it easier for pedestrians to travel to and from the bus station.

New street lighting has also been installed around Morledge, which the council says will contribute to the “improved safety and appearance” of the area. Funded by the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund, these works were part of Nottingham and Derby’s Transforming Cities programme, carried out by Eurovia Infrastructure Ltd on behalf of Derby City Council.

The upgrades come after Derby and Nottingham City Councils secured £161 million to invest in local transport infrastructure. Councillor Carmel Swan, cabinet member for climate change, transport and sustainability, said: “It’s great to see another travel improvement scheme completed in the city.

“These upgrades will allow people to access the city centre easily, safely and sustainably. Residents will know that there are many more improvements on the way.

“This is clear to see around Victoria and Albert Street, Corporation Street and Railway Terrace. Schemes like these are key to us delivering an effective sustainable transport network for Derby that is fit for a future that will continue to be dominated by climate change.”
