2022 saw the launch of two all-new generations of some of the most recognisable Japanese boxy MPVs, the Toyota Noah/Voxy and the Honda Stepwgn. Not wanting to miss out, it appears that the could be the next mid-sized box on wheels to see an all-new replacement.

Though spyshots of the all-new 2023 Nissan Serena, likely given the codename C28, have surfaced in Japan, the next-gen MPV is also spotted making its rounds in Thailand. As it is never sold officially in the Kingdom, the camouflaged units are likely to be used for internal testing.

In this latest set of photos from Thailand, we see a clear view of the sixth-generation Serena’s nose and its headlights arrangement. Admittedly, the front design doesn’t look all that daring like the current C27 Serena but we best save the comments until the camouflage has been peeled off.

The C28 Serena as seen in the Thai spyshots looks pretty basic compared to the ones seen in Japan with black steelies. According to Japanese media, there might be two different body sizes offered for the next-gen Serena – a shorter and narrower “normal body” and a wider, longer “aero body” which is likely to be on the next-gen Highway Star variant.

Besides the front headlights and DRLs, the newest set of Thai spyshots also revealed the next-gen Serena’s taillight configuration. Though it appears that it could feature vertical-style LED taillights as seen in the , some in the Japanese media expect an L-shaped design.

Besides a slightly boxier and equally retro design, the C28 Serena could likely feature a more sophisticated Nissan ProPilot 2.0 ADAS system which offers hands-off highway driving.

The all-new C28 Nissan Serena is expected to be launched in Japan by the end of November 2022. The outgoing C27 has been on sale since 2016 and in Japan and a few other markets, it is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol-electric e-Power hybrid system (136 PS/320 Nm).

That e-Power hybrid system could be carried over into the next-gen Serena but the 2.0-litre S-Hybrid unit (150 PS/200 Nm) might not make the cut.

The S-Hybrid unit is only available in a handful of markets where the Serena is on sale including Malaysia where the facelifted C27 Serena S-Hybrid is priced between RM 149,888 to RM 162,888.
