Harry Maguire believes that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival at Manchester United has brought a ‘fresh energy’ and will help the club get back to the top of English football.

The Red Devils confirmed late last year that the Glazer family had agreed a £1.3bn deal with Ratcliffe and his INEOS partners for a 25 per cent stake in the club.

The deal has now received approval from the Premier League and the Football Association, with Ratcliffe expected to officially buy his shares of the club in the coming days.

INEOS has wasted no time getting to grips with life at Old Trafford, poaching the experienced Omar Berrada from rivals Manchester City to become the club’s new CEO.

Maguire is confident that the 71-year-old will continue to get the club moving in the right direction.

‘I’m sure he’s going to have a big positive effect on the club,’ the centre-back told Sky Sports. ‘Sitting here as a player, I want this club to be successful and I’m sure he’s going to be a big part of getting this club back to where it should be.

‘It’s been a tough few years now. The expectation for this club is to challenge for the biggest trophies and at the top of the Premier League and we haven’t done that often enough in the last ten years.

‘I’m sure he’s got a vision of what he wants for this club and I’m sure he’ll move it in the right direction.’

As part of the deal, Ratcliffe will take charge of football operations at Old Trafford, with Sir Dave Brailsford also set to play an influential role at the club.

The lifelong United fan has earmarked investment in the stadium as a No.1 priority and has already spoken to the first-team squad alongside Brailsford to outline his ambitions.

‘I think the lads came out of the meeting really impressed with how he spoke,’ Maguire added when asked about the meeting.

‘It gave everyone great motivation to want to fight for the badge and this club and to stay on this journey with everybody involved.

‘It’s exciting times for the club – he’s brought that fresh energy because we feel like know he’ll move the club in the right direction.’
