The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have gotten big contributions from their rookie classes in recent years, and they’ll be hoping for more of the same as they look to win a fourth straight NFC South title in 2024.
But how have the Bucs been able to land these instant-impact rookies on an annual basis?
Bucs general manager Jason Licht recently discussed the most important traits he and his team look for when evaluating prospects.
“Leaders, but leaders that can come in a lot of different shapes and forms,” Licht said. “He doesn’t have to be an alpha-leader. Guys that are passionate about the game, guys that are resilient and that can deal with adversity – we have a lot of those guys.”
Tampa Bay clearly has an established culture and philosophy throughout One Buc Place, and an effective process for identifying players who don’t just fit their positional needs, but also match the overall makeup of what they’re looking for in every player they draft.
That’s translated to plenty success in recent years, including four straight trips to the playoffs, and a second Lombardi Trophy.
