MANILA, Philippines: With the ridge or extension of the high pressure area (HPA) prevailing in most parts of the country, any weather disturbance would unlikely form or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at least until over the weekend, the state-run weather agency said on Wednesday.

Weather forecaster Robert “Obet” Badrina of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said cloud formations would not be visible with the presence of the HPA, the opposite of the low pressure area (LPA), which brings rains and thunderstorms.

He said the extension of the HPA was particularly affecting the eastern section of Luzon where hotter temperatures were possible.

Meanwhile, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may be experienced during late afternoon or at night over Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to the localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said in its 5 a.m. advisory.

While the temperature in the metropolis would be between 25 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius, the heat index could reach up to 39 degrees Celsius, it said.

In Tuguegarao City, Pagasa said the temperature would be somewhere between 23 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius.

“We are advising the public to limit outdoor activities, particularly noontime up to mid-afternoon as during this time hotter temperatures can be felt,” the Pagasa forecaster said.

For others who could not avoid going out, they should bring anything to protect themselves from the heat and drink plenty of water, he said.

The state weather bureau said heat index was what the temperature would feel like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.
