Indian Navy responds to distress call from damaged Iranian fishing vessel, provides medical help to crew

The Indian Navy on Monday provided critical support and medical assistance to an Iranian Fishing Vessel (FV) Ameen.

The ship had six Iranian crew on board and was operating East of Duqm. FV Ameen sustained damages after it allegedly collided with a merchant vessel. The Navy said that the collision resulted in a hull breach leading to water ingress.

Indian Navy extends helping hand

Responding to a distress call from the vessel, the Navy deployed a mission in the North Arabian Sea for maritime security operations.

The mission provided damage control assistance and strengthened the hull making it safe for further transit.

Apart from this medical aid was also provided to three injured crew members.

‘We will never forget the help’

A member of the crew onboard said, “We heard a big noise and were worried for our safety. We saw the Indian Navy and called for help.”

Thanking the Navy for their help, the crew members said they would “never forget the Indian Navy’s assistance.”

Previous rescue operations

Earlier in January, the firefighting team of the Indian Navy warship, INS Visakhapatnam, successfully brought the fire onboard the merchant vessel Marlin Luanda under control.
