Gonzalo Montiel is a major injury concern for Nottingham Forest’s game against Newcastle United
Nottingham Forest had to work hard in their FA Cup fourth round replay win against Bristol City on Wednesday.
The Reds needed extra time and penalties at the City Ground to see off their Championship opponents following a 1-1 draw. Forest now only have a matter of days to prepare for Saturday’s Premier League fixture at home to Newcastle United (kick-off: 5:30pm).
And Nuno Espirito Santo has several injury concerns ahead of Forest’s clash against the Magpies. Gonzalo Montiel appeared to pick up a knock late on against the Robins and he was forced off in the 90th minute before being replaced by teenage debutant Joe Gardner.
Elsewhere, Morgan Gibbs-White was seen hobbling around during extra-time against Bristol with Felipe also struggling according to the Reds boss. “Let’s see. We had players struggling, especially with extra-time and all these issues. Let’s assess them and see how they are,” Nuno said of injury concerns after his team’s penalty shootout win.
“Morgan [Gibbs-White] was struggling, and Felipe. And for players who have been out so long it is tough to play extra-time.
“The decision [on team selection] was the only possible way to manage the situation we are in now, to try to protect players who are returning. We have to measure the minutes they are on the pitch. At the same time, we also have to manage the players coming back from long absences.
“But the response was good in this aspect. It was tough but the attitude and the character to never give up makes me very happy.”
The Reds will also be without striker Chris Wood who sustained a hamstring injury in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal last week. The 32-year-old had to be withdrawn at half-time and missed Sunday’s trip to Bournemouth as Forest came from behind to draw 1-1.
