Friday, February 16 REG 86-64 UGB Patriots 92-65 Orion Forward Steven Hagumintwari scored a team high 21 points to inspire Patriots to an emphatic 92-65 win over Orion in Friday night’s basketball league game held at Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium. Former champions, Patriots, led by Hagumintwari, showed their intent from the onset, dominating the last three quarters 26-18,27-18 and 21-11 after both sides played a balanced first quarter which ended 18-18. On the other side, American David Tanner Atkinson put up a top scoring performance but his game high 25 points weren’t enough to pose an upset on their opponent. Yves Murenzi’s youthful UGB side had a dominant first quarter (28-16) during which they opened a 12-point lead before watchful investors Bruce Melodie and Coach Gael, but REG made a quick turnaround to grab the second quarter 29-6 to head into half-time break firmly leading 45-34. Back from the break, center Pitchou Manga scored 22 points and made 11 rebounds as REG claimed the third and fourth quarters 24-16 and 17-14 respectively to register their second win. Action resumes on Saturday when Espoir visit Tigers 3pm while APR face Inspired Generation at 5pm. Both fixtures take place at LDK Gymnasium.
