UK weather maps show the country sizzle in red after this week’s snow blast – as a dramatic shift in temperatures is expected. WX Charts, which uses Met Desk data, is showing a staggering rise in the mercury as we head deeper into February and towards the back end of winter.

The maps show band of high pressure to move across the country from the west. Temperatures will rocket back up – and are expected to reach 14C by Wednesday February 14 across the south of the nation, less than one week after the snowfall.

Paul Davies, the Met Office’s principal meteorologist, said: “Against this backdrop, the tropical Atlantic is very warm. Sea temperatures off the north-west African coast are currently comparable to values more typical for July.”

Temperatures will gradually begin to rise on Sunday February 11, forecasters say. “Becoming mainly dry by the middle of next week, especially in the east with the greatest chance for sunny spells, whereas western areas may see some rain or showers spread in from the Atlantic at times. Temperatures will probably be around normal,” the Met Office states.

In its own look ahead towards the second full week of February, the BBC has also given its verdict. It explains on its monthly outlook: “Temperatures throughout the week are going to be near or just below the February average, so nights will have some sharp frosts and, when the wind drops, overnight and early-morning fog and freezing could be a hazard.

“Atlantic frontal systems will lurk to the southwest, so rain will not be too far away from the southwestern UK. If that does not arrive then winds are still likely to pick up at times ahead of it.” It comes following days of snowfall across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The cold front has sparked school closures and traffic and travel chaos as communities face being “cut off”.
