- Woman, 31, and man, 25, killed by a train
- Tragedy happened in Berowra, in Sydney’s northern outskirts
EXCLUSIVE
A 31-year-old woman killed by a freight train after she jumped onto the tracks to retrieve her phone was a mother of young boys, Daily Mail Australia can reveal.
Mandy Bellamy and her partner Aroulen Chinnien, 25, were standing on the platform at Berowra Railway Station, in Sydney’s northern outskirts, at about midnight on Friday when started arguing.
During the fight, Mr Chinnien, who went by the nickname ‘Vin’, grabbed Ms Bellamy’s phone out of her hands and threw it onto the tracks.
As she went to retrieve her phone, Mr Chinnien realised a freight train was coming and jumped down to try and save her.
Both were tragically hit and died at the scene.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal Ms Bellamy was a Hawkesbury local who grew up in the area. In her teen years, she attended both Asquith Girls High School in Sydney, and Henry Kendall High School in Gosford.
Daily Mail Australia understands Ms Bellamy’s sons live interstate.
Mr Chinnien was also a local, with the accident taking place only metres away from his family home where he lived with his parents.
A local resident, who did not wish to be identified, said she was shocked by the tragic news.
She said she used to be Ms Bellamy’s neighbour many years ago.
‘Her kids used to play with my kids,’ she said.
‘I found out last week at the pub.’
Ms Bellamy had been grappling with legal troubles in recent months after she was charged with domestic violence-related offences against an adult relative multiple times throughout 2023.
One of those incidents resulted in Ms Bellamy being placed on an 18-month community corrections order – which was active at the time of her death – after she pleaded guilty to breaching an AVO.
There were no legal domestic violence matters entered into the court system in relation to Ms Bellamy and Mr Chinnien and it remains unclear whether any reports of that nature had ever been made to police.

It is understood the couple had only been recently begun dating.
Devastated loved ones have left bouquets of flowers and notes along the walkway leading into the railway station in a makeshift memorial for the young mother.
One sign read: ‘We all love and miss you so much already’, while another read:’ Gone but never forgotten.’
Meanwhile, others friends and relatives have shared touching posts online.
‘Rest in peace my beautiful cousin,’ Helen Watts wrote.
‘You deserved so much better then [sic] this.’
‘Rest in peace my number 1 photographer,’ friend Jack Dimmock said.
‘You will forever have a place in my heart. Enjoy all the food and liquor up there and try and save me some.’
Mr Chinnien’s cousin Rajagopalen Aroomougum Carpanen said he remembered holding him on his lap when he was a baby.
Locals say they are still struggling to make sense of what happened at the railway station (pictured) last week
Mandy’s relatives have made a memorial at the train station with bouquets of flowers, candles, and notes
One bouquet read: ‘To Mandy. We all love you.’
‘You hold a special place in my heart which I can’t really define in words. Together, we created beautiful memories; be it before you went overseas or the time that you were on holidays in Mauritius,’ he said.
‘Moments in time that will forever be a part of me.
‘Rest in Peace Aroulen, My adorable cousin.’
A week on, locals are still coming to terms with the tragedy, which has rocked the community of Berowra, which has a population of just over 4,700 people.
‘No one really wants to talk about it,’ one man told Daily Mail Australia.
‘What happened was so awful. I think it is still very raw.’
The tragedy is being treated as a case of misadventure, with officers from Kuring Gai Police Area Command investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
