GMC pickup trucks are built on the assembly line of the General Motors Flint Assembly Plant January 24, 2011 in Flint, Michigan. In response to customer demand GM announced they are adding a third shift and an estimated 750 jobs at the plant.

Many users on the online car community, truck community, and bike community are sharing their sympathies toward Landen Glass.

For those who have no idea who this man is, he is a 20-year-old male who participated in the recent Raleigh Christmas Parade in North Carolina.

Unfortunately, his modified truck’s brakes failed, which led to the death of Hailey Kaye Brooks, an 11-year-old female dancer, as reported by Fox News.

[VIRAL] TikTok #freelanden: Landen’s Truck Incident

If you watch the videos on TikTok, you will see that Landen’s truck has been modified. The most noticeable modification done to the vehicle is its wheels.

A GMC Hummer EV truck is shown at General Motors Factory Zero on August 5, 2021 in Detroit, Michigan. Secretary Granholm is touring several manufacturing facilities in southeast Michigan today to help promote the Biden administrations infrastructure proposal.

Various content showed that the truck’s ground height was increased. Its wheels were also protruding on the sides.

Because of these, many people believed that the truck’s modifications affected the brake efficiency of Landen’s vehicle.

Some individuals said that Landen should not be blamed for the accident, especially when no inspection (as reported by SportsKeeda) was conducted before the pickup truck was used.

Can Truck Wheel Modification Affect Brakes?

Although a faulty brake caused the Raleigh Christmas Parade incident, Landen Glass was still charged with death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, and improper equipment.

Can modifications reduce the efficiency of a car’s brakes?

Pro-Link, Canada’s insurance connection, stated that larger tires and engine mods could both affect the car’s brakes.

These modifications will make it harder for the brakes to work. The agency added that any type of modification could increase the risk of collision.

This is why car modifications should also be carried out by professional vehicle engineers, as reported by NiDirect. But, even if these alterations are done well, experts warned that modifications that change how fast and powerful a car can go are still dangerous.

In the case of Landen, authorities confirmed that his GMC pickup truck had undergone numerous market modifications. You can watch the TikTok videos below to see the modified car.
