All systems go for Matatag curriculum

VICE President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte said all was ready for the full implementation of the Matatag Basic Education Curriculum for school year 2024-2025.

“The curriculum and teaching strand and the National Educators Academy of the Philippines worked together to ensure that our national trainers, including some representatives from private schools, gain a clear understanding of the curriculum, its delivery method and the science of learning,” Duterte said.

The Department of Education has been preparing instructors that will provide support to regional and division trainers for teachers in kindergarten and Grades 1, 4 and 7, she said.

“This concerted effort to train our teachers underscores our solid commitment to providing them with the support they need to succeed. By fostering a deep understanding of the Matatag curriculum at all levels of our education system, we can maximize its impact and ultimately enhance the experience of our learners,” Duterte added.

Duterte promised to visit all 35 schools taking part in the pilot implementation of the curriculum.

“Most of all, thank you to our teachers in the pilot schools. You are the first to embrace the Matatag curriculum. You are the first to teach it. It is never easy to be the first to implement. Thank you very much for your courage, work, dedication and service to our country,” she said.

The curriculum, Duterte said, will equip learners with relevant and essential knowledge, skills, and values needed to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing global community.

Around 35 schools from Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Visayas, Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos), National Capital, Cordillera, and Caraga regions would participate in the pilot implementation of the Matatag Curriculum.

It would involve 385 teachers and 8,300 students.
