ishan kishan training with hardik pandya in baroda, set to miss jharkhand’s next ranji trophy match – reports
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who was ignored for the first two Tests against England, has been training with Hardik Pandya and his elder brother Krunal Pandya at the Reliance Stadium in Baroda these days. According to a report in Cricbuzz on Wednesday (February 7), the former India U-19 skipper was spotted working out and practicing in Baroda. The left-handed batter, who has a double century to his name in ODIs and was part of India’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad as well, has been stationed in Baroda for the past couple of weeks, where he is honing his skills.
But according to the report, there is no indication of his return to action. It is most likely that the star cricketer will not get picked for the remaining three Tests against England and instead will directly make a return to competitive cricket during the IPL, where he will play for the Mumbai Indians under Hardik’s leadership.
Former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More confirmed to Cricbuzz that Ishan has been training at the Kiran More Academy in Baroda, where he has the company of the Pandya brothers.
Ishan hasn’t played a match for India since playing the third T20I against Australia in Guwahati on November 28, 2023. In that match, he got out for a duck. Ishan was picked in India’s T20I and Test teams for the South Africa tour, but he didn’t get a chance to play in any of the two T20Is. He was expected to get picked in the playing XI for two Tests, but before the start of the Boxing Day Test in Cape Town, he pulled out due to personal reasons and hasn’t played since then.
After India’s win in the Visakhapatnam Test against England on Monday (February 5), India’s head coach Rahul Dravid was asked about Ishan’s chances in Team India, to which he replied by saying, “I just don’t want to go on labouring about the Ishan Kishan point. Whenever he is ready, I didn’t say he has to play domestic cricket; I said whenever he is ready, he needs to play some cricket and come back. The choice is his. We are not forcing him to do anything. We are in touch with him.”
“We know what it is. He hasn’t yet started playing, right? At the moment, it’s not something that we would consider. He is maybe not ready. He decides when he wants to be ready.”
In another update, it has been reported that Ishan will miss Jharkhand’s Ranji Trophy match against Haryana, which is set to start on February 9, 2024, at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur.
