new homes on bestwood estate are 'perfect' say residents who are looking forward to christmas

The development in Beckhampton Road, Nottingham.

Families have moved into their brand-new homes in Bestwood Park and are ready for Christmas in their ‘perfect’ properties. families got the keys to their new homes at Nottingham City Council’s Beckhampton development in Bestwood Park in November.

The homes are the latest to be completed as part of the Building A Better Nottingham programme. The Lovell Partnership has been developing the Bestwood site that has homes let at affordable rents to local families in housing need.

With excitement for decorating their homes and celebrating Christmas for the first time in their new property, families have said they have been ‘settling in’ well.

Should Nottingham City Council have managed its finances better over the last 10 years?

“I love it – it’s my first property,” said Sheralea Twells. The 24-year-old mum has moved from Top Valley to her new home. She continued: “My kids are going to love it as well. It’s my first home so I can’t wait to do it up.

“It’s perfect, It’s everything I wanted so I’m so happy. “It’s perfect, its so perfect especially with the schools and parks around for my kids – it’s so lovely. It is great.”

41-year-old Dean Downs and his family used to live in a flat in St Anns. ”It’s really nice,” said Mr Downs. We were in an upstairs flat in St Anns and we’ve got two young children so to get the garden and the size of the garden is actually huge. It’s really big so hopefully in the future we get a trampoline and a paddling pool out.

“The house is really warm. There’s easy access to get to all your local shops and everything. It’s been really quiet because we’ve been one of the first people to move in on this street.

“Now I’ve noticed all the other houses across the road they’ve all been moving in. It’s really nice, I’ve not met many of the other residents yet so hopefully when they start moving in I can start introducing myself. The Christmas tree is up, the kids are really happy and we’re ready for Christmas.”

When complete, the Beckhampton development will comprise of 129 new homes for local people in housing need. The new homes are energy-efficient and low-cost to run.

Every home has solar panels to help reduce energy bills, as well as fittings designed to reduce water wastage and electric vehicle charging points.

Natalie Davie, who is in her 20s said her new property is ‘perfect’. She said: “It’s a lovely area, I lived locally anyway before.

“Moving into a new build is perfect, a two bed for me and my baby is perfect for us.”

For Araz and his family, who previously lived in a small flat, the move couldn’t have come at a better time. “My daughter Eve is just eleven months old,” said Araz.

“She’s just started crawling, and the flat wasn’t ideal as she didn’t have a lot of room. We’re thrilled that now we have a house with a garden, which means that by the time she’s walking next summer, she’ll be able to enjoy the outdoors so much more.”
