Former Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk has agreed to sign a one-year deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. It is for $2 million and includes a mutual option for the 2025 season. ESPN’s Jeff Passan was the one to break the news of the signing.

The interest from Arizona in Grichuk got started recently as the team believes that he can complement left-hander Joc Pederson in their lineup. Both will play the designated hitter position off and on, giving the Diamondbacks flexibility to build out different lineups.

Grichuk came to the Angels last season in a trade at the deadline, spending 54 games with the team. He hit .216 with eight home runs and 17 runs batted in after coming back to Anaheim. The veteran outfielder was originally drafted by the Angels.

Before coming to the team last season, he spent the first part of the season with the Colorado Rockies. Grichuk was much more productive with Colorado, hitting .308 with eight home runs and 27 runs batted in over 64 games.

Grichuk showed while with Colorado that he can still be a solid member of a team. He just needs to be in the correct situation to thrive, and Arizona is expected to be a contender in the National League this year. Playing on a winning team could motivate Grichuk, giving Arizona a potential steal of a signing.
