Why Chiefs need to rehire this coach they unfairly dismissed

Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling to achieve success for nine years despite changing coaches.

The team has hired some of the best local coaches, such as Gavin Hunt and Steve Komphela, but none have been able to restore the team’s previous glory. However, the club has previously had successful coaches such as Muhsin Ertugral, Stuart Baxter, and Ernst Middendorp, all of whom had two stints with Amakhosi but failed to remain in their positions.

It is high time that Kaizer Chiefs rehires a successful coach to lead the team to victory.

Vladimir Vermezovic, a former Kaizer Chiefs top coach, is an excellent candidate for the role. The Serbian tactician led the team for three seasons between 2009 and 2012. During this time he guided the team to two Telkom Knockout Cup triumphs in his first two campaigns with the club.

VV might be the coach to bring glory days back to Chiefs

Vermezovic(60) was responsible for turning Amakhosi into perennial title contenders, with the team finishing third on the league standings in his debut season, six points behind the champions SuperSport United. The team finished third again the following campaign, just a point behind the champions Orlando Pirates. Despite being in the race for the league title, Vermezovic was fired in April 2012 with seven league matches remaining.

The Soweto Giants lost their next three league matches under interim coach Ace Khuse.

Amakhosi yet to find a suitable coach

Besides Baxter, ‘VV’ was the last coach who brought Chiefs closer to the league title and also won trophies. Vladimir Vermezovic perhaps might be the man to restore the team’s former glory. He has a proven track record of success, and his previous experience with the team will ensure a smooth transition. The team cannot afford to continue with its current form and needs a winning coach.

VV also guided Amakhosi rivals Pirates to a Nedbank Cup final which they won in 2014.
