Demi Moore talked working with Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Patrick Swayze as she stopped by Drew Barrymore’s show with Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans cast on Tuesday.

The stars were reminiscing about life in their twenties and what regrets they may have had. 

Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans is the second season of the anthology television series Feud created by Ryan Murphy for FX.

Demi plays Ann ‘Bang-Bang’ Woodward alongside Molly Ringwald as Joanne Carson with Naomi Watts as Babe Paley, Chloe Sevigny as CZ Guest, Calista Flockhart as Lee Radziwill and Diane Lane as Slim Keith.

Feud: Capote vs. The Swans began last week.

‘I had to audition for A Few Good Men – the only thing is I was seven and a half months pregnant so I had to go waddling in,’ she said. ‘ Tom Cruise was mortified’

‘In the big courtroom scenes when Jack Nicholson is up on the stand they were shooting the other direction all day. And here I’m watching this iconic actor, this actor that I’ve grown up with such respect for, do off-camera at full steam all day long. It was something that just moved me and stayed with me on the importance of how we show up for each other,’ she said. Jack, right, with Tom left

She touched on working on 1992’s A Few Good Men.

‘There’s a couple of funny things. One, I had to audition for A Few Good Men – the only thing is I was seven and a half months pregnant so I had to go waddling in,’ she said.

‘Tom Cruise was mortified. The fly on the wall moment, in the big courtroom scenes when Jack Nicholson is up on the stand they were shooting the other direction all day.

‘And here I’m watching this iconic actor, this actor that I’ve grown up with such respect for, do off-camera at full steam all day long.

‘It was something that just moved me and stayed with me on the importance of how we show up for each other.’

Moore also talked about meeting Patrick Swayze on the Ghosts set.

‘Well the first thing that just popped into my head was meeting Patrick Swayze for the first time going oh you know trying to figure out his thing and then he took his shirt off and I was like, “Oh got it. Get on behind me”…the Claymation.’

She added, ‘I still have my little pots that I made, which are pitiful. They’re like the saddest looking things.’

Demi also said she values herself.

‘I was thinking of the power of embodying the feminine. 

‘And I feel like as I was growing up that it wasn’t a safe place to be in your feminine and as I’ve gotten older what I realize is the beauty and the power of an embodied feminine. 

‘I think when we’re younger there’s a bit of a set up to compete with one another, and I think you said it earlier that when one rises we all rise.’

The Cast spoke candidly on confidence and whether it is good to do it all or walk away

Demi: ‘I’ve done both and I think different times call for different things, like when Bruce and I decided to separate and divorce I knew that I needed to just be with my kids’

Chloe added, ‘There are plenty of times when I’d like to walk away but what would I do?’ Drew commented: ‘I agree I would like to remain.’ Naomi then shared: ‘There are days where I feel like I spread myself way too thin, and what the hell am I doing but at the same time I would never walk away. ‘I love being an actor I love that feeling and not walking away, staying here.’

Diane shared: ‘It’s like who would have the audacity to walk away. ‘Now I don’t know if you did, but I did and I think some of us have walked away from our careers at a certain moment for mental health reasons before there was any calls about mental health. ‘It was really truly personal when we did it. It wasn’t modeling any behavior for others.’ Calista noted: ‘I felt very grateful that I had a choice so I made a choice to walk away and I don’t regret it at all’

She values her female relationships more than anything.

‘I think that starts with the valuing of yourself. I personally went through a part of my life where I was stripped of every external identity so I could learn to love myself with nothing,’ she said.

The Cast spoke candidly on confidence and whether it is good to do it all or walk away.

‘I was at the prime of my career and I don’t regret a moment of it. There was just not a question.’

Chloe added, ‘There are plenty of times when I’d like to walk away but what would I do?’

Drew commented: ‘I agree I would like to remain.’

Naomi then shared: ‘There are days where I feel like I spread myself way too thin, and what the hell am I doing but at the same time I would never walk away.

‘I love being an actor I love that feeling and not walking away, staying here.’

Diane shared: ‘It’s like who would have the audacity to walk away.

‘Now I don’t know if you did, but I did and I think some of us have walked away from our careers at a certain moment for mental health reasons before there was any calls about mental health.

‘It was really truly personal when we did it. It wasn’t modeling any behavior for others.’

Calista noted: ‘I felt very grateful that I had a choice so I made a choice to walk away and I don’t regret it at all. I was ninety-nine percent a stay-at-home mom.’

Drew then talked to Ringwald.

‘Molly you were such an inspiration to us girls and then you went and moved to France, you made a very powerful choice, why did you make that choice?’

‘I didn’t know that I was making the choice when I made it, I went there and I felt like it was the first time I could breathe in a really long time,’ said the 80s teen movie queen. ‘Nobody really knew who I was.’

Diane Lane said C. Thomas Howell distracted her while making The Outsiders.

‘The behind-the-scenes memory that I have, I hate to throw anyone under the bus but he can handle it. Dear sweet C. Thomas Howell… Anyway we had to go capture, because it was Francis Ford Coppola, the perfect sunset.

‘So there’s my moment to do my lines and there’s C. Thomas Howell and he is making faces at me and he is having a time and I’m standing there thinking, “This is not working for me.”

‘So I had to just keep going and it made me stronger for it.’

Molly also talked starring in the 80s TV show Facts of Life.

‘I started out actually on Different Strokes and then it was a spin off of Facts of Life. and I only did one year on that and they let me go after a year.’

Drew asked her how she dealt with the blow.

‘It felt like a real rejection so I just went and I did school for a year and it was a great school year and I was a relatively normal kid for a year and then I got my first movie that summer.’

Next Molly touched on The Breakfast Club.

‘I have a lot of feelings about The Breakfast Club.

‘I loved the script. I have things that I take issue with as a grown up now that I’ve written about for The New Yorker and any time I have to watch to watch it with my kids, which I did recently with my fourteen-year-old daughter and son, the conversations that we have afterwards are so amazing.

‘And, what’s really amazing to me is that they didn’t pick up their phone once. Which is a testament to the fact that it still speaks to people but the conversations about what they took issue with and what they didn’t, the fact that I was basically, my character is sexually harassed through the whole thing and then I go for him at the end, they did not get that at all.

‘And I was really happy that they didn’t like that, that that was not a turn on for my daughter and I said, “Back when I was making those movies that was a turn on” like if anybody treated you badly that’s the one that you wanted.

‘But having said that there is still so much that I love in the movie.

‘The fact that it really breaks down these characters and says there’s something that we all have in common and that we’re all feeling the same thing no matter what we look like and what our social stratum is and that kids have a voice and your voice is important and it’s important to speak up. All of those to me make the film really meaningful.’

Sevigny, 49, plays socialite CZ Guest from Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

Lucy Douglas ‘CZ’ Guest was an American stage actress, author, columnist, horsewoman, fashion designer, and socialite.

The blonde was also a fashion icon. 

In 1947, she married Winston Frederick Churchill Guest, the son of Frederick Guest, who was a son of Ivor Bertie Guest, 1st Baron Wimborne, and Lady Cornelia Henrietta Maria Spencer-Churchill (daughter of John Spencer-Churchill, 7th Duke of Marlborough) and who, through his mother, was a first cousin of Sir Winston Churchill.  

They had two children, Alexander Guest and Cornelia Guest, who was on Twin Peaks and American Horror Story.

CZ died in 2003 at age 83. 

Ringwald plays Joanne Carson, who was married to late night talk show host Johnny Carson; she was his second wife. Later in life became a close confidant of Truman Capote.

Her birth name was Joanne Copeland.

She was a model who had worked as a stewardess for Pan American World Airways. Her life changed when she met Johnny in 1960.

These films led to the media referring to her as a member of the Brat Pack.

Her final teen roles were in For Keeps and Fresh Horses (both in 1988).

Following leading roles in King Lear (1987), The Pick-up Artist (1987), Strike It Rich (1990), and Betsy’s Wedding (1990), Ringwald moved to Paris and began acting in French films.

In subsequent decades, Ringwald acted in the television shows The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008–2013), Riverdale (2017–2023), Creepshow (2021), and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022).

Watts plays Babe Paley in Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans which kicks off January 31.

Babe, real name Barbara Cushing Mortimer Paley, was an American magazine editor and socialite.

Her second husband William S. Paley was the founder of CBS.

Affectionately known as ‘Babe’ throughout her life, Paley made notable contributions in the field of magazine editing.

She was a style icon known for her slender frame, bouffant hairstyle and elegant designer duds.

She died in 1978.

Watts came to fame with the creepy thriller Mulholland Drive.

She then went on to star in big hits like The Ring, King Kong and, more recently, The Watcher. The movie she made with Leonardo DiCaprio was J Edgar in 2011; she played Helen Gandy.

She dated Heath Ledger from 2002 until 2004. He died in 2008.

Watts had two children with actor Liev Schreiber, her costar in the 2006 drama The Painted Veil. She is now wed to Billy Crudup of The Morning Show.

Calista Flockhart looks very different too in the new ensemble show.

In the new poster for her project Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans, the 59-year-old has brown hair, red lipstick and silver earrings as she holds onto a black swan.

She plays Lee Radziwill.

Caroline Lee Bouvier, later Canfield, Radziwiłł, and Ross, was an American socialite, public relations executive, and interior decorator.

She was the younger sister of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and sister-in-law of President John F. Kennedy.

The Manhattan socialite died in 2019.

Flockhart plays Lee Radziwill. Caroline Lee Bouvier, later Canfield, Radziwiłł, and Ross, was an American socialite, public relations executive, and interior decorator

She was the younger sister of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and sister-in-law of President John F. Kennedy. Seen in 1965

Also in the series is Tom Hollander as Truman Capote; Diane Lane as Slim Keith; Chloë Sevigny as C.Z. Guest; Demi Moore as Ann ‘Bang-Bang’ Woodward.

Calista became famous from the hit TV show Ally McBeal about a lawyer who works with her ex-boyfriend.

And she is married to Star Wars actor Harrison Ford of Star Wars and Indiana Jones fame.

Together they are raising her son Liam.
