Dwight Yorke claims Rasmus Hojlund is a 'stroll in the PARK' to play against and 'nowhere near the level' of Man United's great strikers… but what does he rate his season out of 10?

Dwight Yorke has claimed Rasmus Hojlund is easy for defenders to play against, branding his play style a 'stroll in the park' to face.

Yorke, who won the Treble with Manchester United in 1998-99, thinks the youngster is struggling to emulate the club's tradition of fearsome number nines.

However, he also has sympathy for the Dane, whose debut season has brought 16 goals despite him joining the worst team Old Trafford has seen in the Premier League era.

'The fear of playing against Rooney, Van Nistelrooy, Yorke, Cole, Mark Hughes [is gone]. And now you've got Rasmus. It's nowhere near the level,' Yorke told Mail Sport on behalf of Crypto Casino, ahead of United's FA Cup final against Manchester City.

'As a defender, you're like: "This is going to be a stroll in the park coming to Old Trafford". That's never been the case. We used to be a nightmare to defend against with Rooney and Ronaldo, the attackers we had.

Mauricio Pochettino is held in high regard by Man United chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS... and he 'would be interested in taking the job if Erik ten Hag is sacked'

'He's relatively unknown. He comes into the Premier League and I'd never heard of him, didn't know where he came from before.'

Joining United in Hojlund's circumstances was always going to be challenging.

The striker, 21, was saddled with a £72million transfer fee when he joined from Atalanta last summer - almost as much as Chelsea spent on Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson combined.

That vote of confidence trailed a season where he scored 10 goals in 34 outings, a decent return for a youngster's debut Serie A season.

But Yorke and Ruud van Nistelrooy had multiple prolific seasons under their belts when they arrived at Carrington. Forward signings since Sir Alex Ferguson left have included Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, Alexis Sanchez, and Romelu Lukaku.

With Marcus Rashford coming off the back of a 30-goal season, the idea was never for Hojlund to completely shoulder the burden of United's goalscoring needs.

He has scored twice off the bench in his last two games and a goal in the FA Cup final would help him to finish the year on a high.

'At 21 he's coming into a team that's really struggling and not playing good football, so I feel for him in that sense,' Yorke said.

'In terms of his overall play, his impact in the game, being a defenders' nightmare, it's very difficult for a kid.

'I'd give his season a 5 out of 10 - and that's me being generous.

'He had a bit of luck to score the goals he managed to score, and that's fantastic, I'm happy for him.

'I'm very undecided. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I will see if there's any progress next season.

'This is a top club. This is no Mickey Mouse club. This is a proper football club. Right now from what I've seen, he's not where a Man United number nine should be.'

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has acknowledged that turning around the Man United super tanker will take time and patience.

'Quite often in football people just get the cheque book out and they think it's all going to be solved in the summer transfer window,' he told Bloomberg Television.

'That's proven many many times to not end well. (Turning United around) will take us two or three seasons.'

Putting the long-term health of Manchester United is seemingly a priority for Ratcliffe, a lifelong fan.

Yet that doesn't mean anyone can freewheel. This is an uber-successful INEOS billionaire with a 'zero tolerance for bull****'. Hojlund is one of just three players reportedly safe from a fire sale this summer, but he will need to show he can deliver titles.

So, how can he improve? Yorke thinks he needs to adapt his style of play. A recent report claimed some players are avoiding passing to him due to a lack of confidence. Supply has been an issue.

'As a striker you can demand the ball and get hold of it,' said Yorke.

'You've got to teach him these roles, how to play. Playing with your back to goal is probably the hardest position in football, so you've got to play side on or come off defenders and receive balls.

'He seems to spend a lot of time on his back, wrestling against players. You've got to be cleverer.

'When you're playing as a nine, you've got to be clever with your run and movements and how you can con defenders - not get into a wrestling match every time he plays. For me that's the issue with him.

'But he's very young and very naive that he can't do those things. If someone is not teaching him those things, then how is he going to learn and progress? But we have a striker coach (Benni McCarthy)!

'That's what they're there for. To take 10 minutes after training to implement those ideas, how to make runs and get the players who are supposed to supply him to pass the ball when he makes those runs and try to play him in.

'It takes 10, 15 minutes, just a reminder. But I don't see that. That's what we did as strikers to get better in our position.'
