Photo gallery from Dundalk Chamber’s summer barbeque

After a spell of what could almost be called ‘this year’s summer’ I headed with great anticipation to the Fairways Hotel for the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce’ Midsummer BBQ on Thursday night only to find if back to being the normal dull overcast and bordering on being blood freezing. Yes, a good crowd had turned out specially for the event and the hotel had provided an exceptional spread specially for the occasion.

With all the best will in the world I eventually found myself standing adjacent to one of the two electric heaters where I found solace from the cold but quickly realised a move was on the cards as my fine collection of biros started to melt due to the proximity of the warm air.

Anyway, I headed over for a quick word with some of the hard working staff from the chamber who included Geraldine Bradley from Point Road and Brenda McGeeney from Dromiskin who told me they had been extremely busy setting up in preparation for the event and were quietly confident the BBQ would pass off without a hitch (no I neglected to mention how cold it was!).

Next I headed over for a chat with my old friends Simon and Elizabeth Brown from Blackrock representing Uniquely and they were up for making the best of the evening while chatting to Richard Lewis originally from Manchester, now living in Carlingford who is responsible for On Yer Bike, a hire service based on the peninsula focusing mainly on the Carlingford Greenway. Richard wanted a special mention for his better half Joei who wasn’t feeling the best and had decided to stay home instead.

Not too far away in one of the delightful pods placed in the open air space I then caught up with Helen and Ronan Byrne from Suil Na Mara who told me Helen was representing Dundalk Tidy Towns (who are doing an excellent job this year yet again) and said they thought it was a lovely location for the BBQ, if a bit on the fresh side. They were having a laugh with Brenda whom I’d met earlier who revealed that she had done most of the work on the day setting up, but wasn’t responsible for the two brass monkeys wondering around aimlessly near the food.

Heading for another of the pods I then got talking to Jennifer White and Paudie Murray from PTSB who said the food was lovely and were impressed with the entire set up by the chamber.

After this I headed over a quick word with Naomi and Jim O’Donoghue from Faughart who told me Naomi was definitely going to be busy networking but Jim was her plus one and said he was only ‘here for the beer’, man after my own heart!

Not too far away (from the heaters) I had the pleasure of meeting up with my old friend Fergal Cassidy from Measuresoft Development Ltd. who was in good form and talking to Jason McGee from Blackrock representing Jascom Consulting Ltd. who told me being a web designer, he was responsible for setting up and launching the Chamber’s website on Dundalk.ie recently and said it was definitely worth a look.

As I strayed further away from the heat, I was warmed by the welcome from Maria O’Toole from Dowdallshill and her compadre Trevor Thornton from Cluan Enda representing PayPal whom they said have had had a great association with the chamber and were delighted to be there for the BBQ.

Beside them I then had the pleasure of chatting to Jean Clerkin from Dundalk Stadium and Siobhan McTigue Fairways Director of Sales who told me they had taken every caution possible and were running the BBQ on a 50/50 basis, partially inside and partially out in the frozen tundra oops I mean in the overcast summer evening. Irish weather, where do you start?

After this I made my way over to have a quick chat with my neighbours Tim, Catherine and Helena Mullins from Glen Gat Guesthouse. Tim told me he’s a long time member of the chamber and said it was just great to see some of the old familiar faces again to chat and renew old friendships, along with making new ones too.

As I started to shiver again, it was time to head for the heaters and while I was there I got a word with Hannah McDowell director with the Chamber who was having a laugh with Ali Molloy from High Tide events management. So I had to ask, who was learning from whom about the BBQ on the night and was reliably informed that friends learn from each other!

I then ventured off towards the pods again where I was delighted to meet up with Deirdre and Paddy Malone from Malone & Co. Who told me they were having a lovely time in great surroundings and the food was just hitting the spot too.

Next I headed over for a word with Deborah and Shane O’Reilly from MACFAR Property Management who said they were really enjoying the evening and said Deborah is also a Chamber council member and assured me it was going to be a marvellous night.

Making my back over to the chamber pod I then had the pleasure of talking to Karolina Kavaliauskiene from Dundalk Skillnet and the Chamber who was joined by Kim Hearty from the chamber who said they thought the night was going extremely well and were on hand for every eventuality, should they be needed.

One man who was busy, but not busy enough to spare me a quick word, yes, President of the Chamber Pat McCormick Head of Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Trades in TCD who was enjoying a lovely meal and said it was great to see the members coming out for the social evening and it was definitely going to be a good night once the rain stayed away.

Just arrived at the BBQ were husband and wife Paddy and Mary Matthews from the Demesne representing Matthews Coaches who said they were really looking forward to the night with all their old friends.

After this I headed over for a quick photo shoot with the Mullen’s from Glen Gat who were now joined by Brian and Killian Hanratty from Clogherhead representing Synerg.ie who said it was sure to be a good night and then gave me their phones to take terrible photos, oops I mean immortalise the occasion for them.

As my head and fingers cooled their way towards frostbite, I headed for the eaters again and there I met up with James Murphy from Daniel O’Connell & Son solicitors who was chatting to Amanda Craven from CB Consultants and Paddy Beagan from Vesta who were just after arriving and were busy chatting to all ther friends while getting something to eat from the lovely buffet.

After this I met up with Lorraine O’Malley from Border Partnership who said it was looking like a good evening for a BBQ.

Also just arrived were Aidan Callan from the Chamber Skillnet and Dearbhal Ahern who agreed it was a little on the fresh side but they were ready to make the best of the occasion.

Finally, I then met up with Jenny Gray and Jonathan Fahy from Staff Line who were looking forward to the occasion although Jonathan did mention he wanted to be representing Heineken for the evening that it was.
