Update on Ukhozi FM host Zanele Mbokazi’s health

Zanele Mbokazi, who is a businesswoman and Ukhozi FM presenter, has been discharged from the hospital.

LUNG CANCER DIAGNOSIS

Almost two weeks ago, the radio personality – who hosts the IsiZulu radio station’s gospel show, Eshilo – was hospitalised after she lost her voice and her breath in studio.

After hospitalisation and surgery, Mbokazi was diagnosed with lung cancer.

“After several tests, the doctors found that Zanele has lung cancer. That is what the doctors discovered,” her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, told the Ukhozi FM listeners.

UKHOZI FM’S ZANELE MBOKAZI IS BACK HOME

According to ZiMoja, Mbokazi’s PR manager Nonjabulo Mdluli confirmed that the businesswoman was discharged last weekend. Mdluli added that the Crown Gospel Music Awards is back home and full of life.

“Zanele returned from hospital over the past weekend. She is currently at home with her family. Yesterday, she visited her parents’ home in Thornwood, Dassenhoek for a special prayer with the Catholic church, where she grew up.

“Her unstoppable faith in God keeps her strong,” Mdluli was quoted as saying.

In a Facebook post this week, the broadcaster write: “My body is weak, but I am singing a new song. No place like home.”

‘I FELL SO ILL’

On Sunday, 21 April, Mbokazi could not finish her show as she lost her breath and voice. Her colleague, Thokozani MaMkhize Ndlovu, had to fill in for her. A week later, she lost her voice again in studio and was later rushed to the hospital.

“Zanele has been unwell since Sunday, 21 April. She was unable to host her show, and MaMkhize Ndlovu filled in for her. She experienced severe pains but felt better by Friday, 26 April, and even attended an event in Pietermaritzburg. However, upon returning to work on Sunday, the illness struck again, but fortunately, she managed to complete her show despite the struggle,” said Mbokazi’s spokesperson, Nonjabulo Mdluli.

“Zanele is receiving treatment in the hospital and her condition is improving. We urge people to continue praying for her,” she added.

While it was reported that she had the flu at first, Mbokazi opened up about her illness on Facebook that week.

“Wow! I fell so ill this morning. The truth is that I don’t have the flu. From last Sunday, I have been battling isbhobo [sharp cramps often on the upper body] and voicelessness.

“Today [Sunday] I came to work because I felt better, the cramps were gone and my voice was back, but it started all over again,” she wrote and asked for prayers.
