Angry Harlem residents surround alleged slasher Shaquan Cummings, 30 Cummings allegedly knifed an 11-year-old girl's ear with a box cutter on Friday The suspect, who has over 20 previous arrests, also allegedly punched a woman

New video captures the harrowing moment a mob of angry citizens surrounded a man suspected of viciously slashing an 11-year-old girl in the head with a box cutter.

In the video, Shaquan Cummings, 30, who also allegedly punched a 43-year-old woman during his bloody crime-spree on Friday afternoon, is cornered by a crowd of furious Harlem residents.

A legion of NYPD officers rebuff the angry citizens, pushing them back and forming a ring around the alleged slasher, who cowers behind them in fear.

Text appears on the screen that says: 'They finally caught him!!!'

Desperate cops stand shoulder to shoulder and attempt to shield Cummings, who has more than 20 prior arrests, while the crowd seethes and lunges toward him.

At one point in the video, an irate citizen jabs Cummings with his cane.

'Back up!' a cop screams at the mob with a hoarse voice.

Tired of the crime plaguing their neighborhood, the Harlem residents appear prepared to take justice into their own hands.

'Don't let him go!' someone in the crowd yells.

Another cop rushes into the fray, and stands in front of the suspect.

'You're defending a f***ing criminal,' a resident screams.

Around 2:18 pm on Friday, Cummings allegedly attacked an 11-year-old girl with a box cutter just outside the 116th Street 6 subway station.

Cummings allegedly knifed the child in the back of the head, slashing her ear as she walked down the street and held her mother's hand.

The child reportedly felt something on the back of her head, and when her mother, Gorzata Sladek, turned around, she saw 'a box cutter.'

Cummings allegedly ducked into a subway following the attack, and escaped even as Sladek pursued the assailant.

'Terrible. It's terrible to see a little girl with her head cut, sliced in half,' the victim's mother told the New York Post.

A UPS employee who saw medics treating the injured girl said she was 'scared and crying.'

He continued: 'Her head [was] bloody. Bleeding can't stop. [She was] bleeding in her hand and her shirt...she was crying. Scared.'

After the savage attack, the girl underwent intensive surgery that required myriad staples and stiches to stop the wound.

But the emotional scars persist, the mother said. She called the terrifying episode 'traumatizing.'

'She's not doing well emotionally. She doesn't want to go back to school. She doesn't want to go outside anymore,' Sladek said.

After allegedly brutally attacking Sladek's 11-year-old child, Cummings was picked up by authorities only a block away, where earlier in the afternoon he had allegedly assaulted a 43-year-old-woman.

The woman declined to receive medical treatment.

On Friday night, Cummings was charged with two counts of assault and acting in a manner that is injurious to a child.

Cummings's more than 20 previous arrests include assault, criminal mischief, and fare evasion.

His most recent arrest was only two months ago for an assault charge.

In a statement to the Post, Sladek expressed frustration with the level of violence on the streets- a sentiment shared by the angry mob that surrounded Cummings.

''You should be able to walk on the street and not worry that somebody will attack you...not event attacking a dog, but a little kid.'
