McDonald's Hopes A New $5 Meal Will Bring Customers Back

McDonald's is working hard to bring back customers who may have jumped ship due to soaring costs at the chain. According to a report from Bloomberg, the fast food restaurant wants to introduce a $5 meal deal, and they're asking franchisees if they're willing to consider the option.

The $5 meal deal will likely consist of three menu items, including a McChicken, a McDouble, or four-piece chicken nuggets, along with fries and a drink.

We have to admit that that's quite the bargain given the fast food prices we've been seeing. A recent study showed that prices at McDonald's have doubled in the past decade. Although nearly all fast food spots have increased in price over the past 10 years, McDonald's had the largest surge in prices.

The combo could include a McChicken, a McDouble, or four-piece chicken nuggets, with fries and a drink. The news comes as the restaurant attempts to bring former customers back who have turned their back on the chain.

The price of a 10-piece McNugget meal has increased by 83%, while an order of medium fries has increased by a soaring 138%.

In addition to the proposed $5 meal deal, McDonald's wants to launch a "larger satiating burger." Plans for the new burger, which the restaurant hopes will lure customers back, were announced by McDonald's CFO Ian Borden earlier this month.

"We’ll be testing this burger in a few markets later this year, ensuring that it has universal appeal before scaling it across the globe," Borden said.

It's unclear when the new burger or the $5 meal deal will pop up in restaurants, but our bank accounts couldn't be more excited.
