GE Vernova slips as Trump pledges executive order against wind energy
GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV) -1.1% in Monday's trading as former president Trump promised to issue an executive order targeting offshore wind development if he is elected in November, in his most explicit threat against the wind industry.
The presumptive Republican nominee criticized offshore wind projects as lethal for birds and whales during his weekend rally in New Jersey, saying "we are going to make sure that that ends on day one... in an executive order."
While Trump did not offer specifics, a president could issue an executive order ordering a new study of the impact of offshore wind and halting the permitting of new projects in the meantime; President Biden used a similar approach when issuing a moratorium on offshore oil leasing during his first week in the White House.
Trump's comments on various issues are receiving closer attention as he extends his lead against Biden in polls of key swing states.
