Cork farmer looking to revive his ‘non-existent’ love life on RTÉ’s Love in the Country
A County Cork farmer who is looking to revive his “non-existent” romantic life said he would like to meet someone with similar interests to him through the upcoming second series of RTÉ’s ‘Love in the Country’.
44-year-old Ger, who farms on the Sheep’s Head Peninsula in west Cork, will appear in the TV show as he looks to overcome the obstacles to dating he faces in rural Ireland.
“My dating life at the moment is non-existent. It’s challenging definitely to meet someone in rural Ireland. There’s less pubs here, less nightclubs, the traditional places for meeting someone are closing up,” Ger said.
The suckler farmer said that a regular day for him consists of checking on his cattle, moving them from field to field and spreading fertiliser and some slurry.
“There is always something going on,” he said.
Given how he leads his life, Ger said that he would like to meet someone who has an interest in agriculture.
“I’m kind of outdoors-y so I think someone who likes the same interests would be a great help alright,” he said.
“I would like to meet someone who would have an interest in farming. It’s always handy to have someone around who knows what they are doing and can help out.
“Just someone with an interest in the countryside and what I’m doing. But interested in what other people are doing too, I’m not totally set in my ways I suppose.”
Ger, who often goes sea swimming when he is not at work, said that is looking for someone grounded who values kindness and has travelled and “seen a bit of life”.
Ger’s sister said that she would really like to see him settling down with somebody who is compatible with him, although that special somebody will have to withstand the direct questioning of his father.
“He’s always testing people out, are you able to wear a pair of wellingtons, are you able to stick the rain, I’d say miniskirts are just out,” she said.
‘Love in the Country’, which is presented by former Cork camogie star Anna Geary, is looking for daters who believe they might be compatible with Ger, who said, “I know I’m getting older and I’d like to meet someone to share my life with”.
