Barrett backs Moses, Tedesco anoints Edwards NSW No.1

Trent Barrett has declared Mitch Moses should be recalled to NSW's halves as one of several crucial calls to be made by Blues coach Michael Maguire.

Maguire will on Sunday night reveal his team for the must-win State of Origin II in Melbourne, with up to five changes likely from the side that lost Game I.

One of the biggest decision looms in the halves.

Nicho Hynes' Game I performance has come under increased scrutiny in recent weeks, with questions over his polish in attack at Accor Stadium.

Moses shapes as the most likely replacement if Maguire opts to make a change, with three games back under his belt from a foot injury.

The 29-year-old declined to speak to media after Saturday night's 28-18 loss to the Sydney Roosters, where he touched the ball more than any other half on the field.

But interim Eels coach Barrett, who played 11 games in the halves for the Blues, made his opinion clear.

"From a State of Origin point of view, I think he's our best option," Barrett said. "Mitch is three games back from his foot (injury).

"I thought he was good (against the Roosters). He did some really good things again. The whole team played pretty well."

If Moses is selected, Maguire must decide whether to partner him with one of the incumbents in Hynes or Luai, while Cody Walker is another option.

Latrell Mitchell is expected to replace the suspended Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii at centre, while Maguire will make a call on whether to play a utility on the bench.

Decisions also loom in the back row, with Liam Martin and Haumole Olakau'atu both set to overcome injury scares and play for Penrith and Manly on Sunday.

Cameron Murray is also back in the mix, after overcoming a hip injury and getting through his return game for South Sydney unscathed on Friday night.

And the fullback spot is again expected to command attention, with Dylan Edwards to return on Sunday from the ankle injury that cost him an Origin debut.

James Tedesco sent a final reminder to selectors on Saturday of what he can offer when he starred for the Roosters against the Eels, playing a hand in three tries.

But even the former captain has conceded that Edwards will likely claim the No.1 jersey back off him, after he was initially axed for the series opener before being called in late after Edwards' injury.

"If Dyl is fit and plays, I think he goes back in," Tedesco said.  "That's the way I see it. But we saw in the first game anything can happen, so we'll see."

POSSIBLE NSW SIDE FOR STATE OF ORIGIN II:

Dylan Edwards, Brian To'o, Stephen Crichton, Latrell Mitchell, Zac Lomax, Jarome Luai, Mitch Moses, Payne Haas, Reece Robson, Jake Trbojevic, Angus Crichton, Liam Martin, Cameron Murray. Bench: Matt Burton, Isaah Yeo, Spencer Leniu, Haumole Olakau'atu.
