Chappell Roan wows in glittering red gown as she headlines Kentuckiana Pride Festival - after emotional confession over rise to fame

Chappell Roan is having one heck of a summer. She's fresh off headlining the closing concert of the Kentuckiana Pride Festival in Louisville Saturday night, which sold out for the first time in the festival's history.

The My Kink is Karma singer wore a red mermaid-style dress which coordinated with her fiery red hair and super glam, Drag Queen-style makeup.

The 26-year-old held a cigarette in one hand as she belted out her hit songs, many of which the crowd sang along with joyously.

After the Pride Festival, the Pink Pony Club singer headed to Manchester, Tennessee  to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival where she was originally scheduled to perform on one of the smaller tent stages.

However, the pop princess has been surging in popularity ever since she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on her GUTS tour, forcing the music festival to move her to the second largest stage from one of the medium-sized stages at literally the last moment to accommodate her fervent fans.

Chappell Roan breaks down in tears while performing on stage

Last week, the Good Luck, Babe! hitmaker – born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz – broke down into tears while performing on stage in Raleigh, North Carolina on Wednesday night.

She had tears running down her face as she told the audience: 'I guess I just want to be honest with the crowd. I just feel a little off today ‘cause I think that my career is going really fast and it’s really hard to keep up.

'So I’m just being honest that I’m just having a hard time today.'

The rising star went on to explain that her meteoric and sudden rise to fame is hard to take in even if it is her biggest dream come true.

'So sorry that — I’m not trying to give you, like, a lesser show. It’s just, there’s a lot… Thank you for understanding. This is all I’ve ever wanted. It’s just heavy sometimes, I think,' she explained.

At Bonnaroo, her fans started camping out at 3:30AM for her 3:00PM set at the Which Stage, The Tennesseean reported.

At Boston Calling Festival over Memorial Day weekend, the Femininomenon singer pulled bigger crowds than headliners including Ed Sheeran.

The performer – who says her aesthetic is heavily influenced by drag queens – has been performing music for more than half of her life.

Chappell released Die Young on YouTube when she was 17-years-old in 2015 and was quickly signed to Atlantic Records where she released an EP and single in 2020 before being dropped from the label.

This, paired with the Covid-19 pandemic, a break-up with a boyfriend of four years, a bipolar diagnosis and coming out as queer saw Chappell move back to Missouri with her parents and get a job at a drive-through donut shop.

She kept working on her music as an independent artist while working as a barista as she managed to save enough money to move back to LA.

Once back in LA, Chappell began working with Dan Nigro, who produced Pink Pony Club, which was reportedly inspired by Chappell's first trip to the gay club The Abbey in West Hollywood.

By this time, Dan had reached producer superstar status for working with Rodrigo on her Grammy-winning albums SOUR and GUTS.

Chappell continued to work odd jobs once she was back in L.A. including as a nanny and a production assistant on a HBO show.

Then, she then landed a deal with Sony in 2022, released her debut album The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess in 2023 with Island Records and now she's playing on Bonnaroo's second-largest stage for hundreds of thousands of people.
