Housebuilder Bellway has purchased land in Gloucester to build 185 homes.

The purchase in Hempsted is part of the company’s commitment to creating new communities in Gloucester. Bellway said it is set to invest almost £2m in services and infrastructure to support the development off Hempsted Lane, which would be known as Hawthorn Park.

The plans include two, three, and four-bedroom homes for private sale and 37 properties would be designated as affordable housing for rent or shared ownership.

Elgan Daniel, land director for Bellway, said: “As Gloucestershire’s popularity with homebuyers remains strong, it is vital that new developments are in keeping with the area and deliver the infrastructure to support communities as they grow.

“Bellway has a long-standing commitment to building high-quality homes in the county and funding improvements to local services. Our proposed scheme would bring many benefits to the area including 16 acres of open space featuring games areas, a kickabout zone, and equipped play areas. The development will also be designed to improve biodiversity.”

Bellway is now finalising its detailed plans for the development for consideration by the local authority.

Infrastructure payments of more than £1.m would be made under the terms of the Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 agreements linked to the outline planning application. These payments include money for sports provision, roads, education and library services.
