leicester city transfer news: outcasts eyed for january moves as winger approach made

Boubakary Soumare in action for Leicester City against Wolves

The January transfer window is already in full swing, but it has been a slow one so far for Leicester City.

There has only been one move in the first team ranks, with goalkeeper Daniel Iversen joining fellow Championship side Stoke City on loan until the end of the season.

It looks like outgoings might continue to be the order of the day, with speculation over the futures of players like Danny Ward and Harry Souttar. There could also be a switch of clubs for Boubakary Soumare, who is out on loan at Sevilla.

Here is a look at the latest transfer headlines around Leicester City, with one potential incoming also on the cards as a fresh name is linked.

Forgotten man says yes

Forgotten Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumare has “already said yes” to joining Napoli.

The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Spanish club Sevilla, but has only made nine starts in La Liga this season. That has alerted Napoli, whose chief scout Maurizio Micheli is said to be “pressing for the player”.

That’s according to Naples-based daily newspaper Il Mattino, who claim Soumare has already agreed to sign for the Italian club. But his existing loan agreement with Sevilla will means things are not going to be straightforward for the Leicester man.

City ‘come forward’

Leicester City have “already come forward” to sign Stade Rennais winger Ibrahim Salah, it has been claimed.

The 22-year-old got off to a blistering start this season, scoring two goals in seven minutes from the bench on the opening day of the season. But Salah has played just 13 minutes of league football since November 12, which has alerted potential suitors to his availability.

According to L’Equipe, Leicester are joined in the race to sign Salah by Feyenoord, FC Lorient, Toulouse, Brest and Olympiacos. It remains to be seen whether City would want the winger to join this month, or in the summer transfer window.

Surprise PL link

Sheffield United have reportedly “asked” about Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward ahead of a potential transfer.

The Premier League side are reportedly looking for a stopper in the current transfer window, and have already been linked with a surprise move for Leicester legend Kasper Schmeichel. A move for Schmeichel could prove too expensive for the Blades, who now appear to have turned their attentions to Ward.

According to The Sun, they are “keen” on taking Ward on loan until the end of the season. They say Leicester would prefer to sell, but that a loan with a future buy clause would “get the deal done”.

Iversen opens up

Goalkeeper Daniel Iversen has opened up on a “tough” season that saw Leicester City relegated last season.

Iversen played the last 12 games of the Premier League campaign, replacing Danny Ward, who had been in poor form for much of the season.

The change could not stop the rot, despite the best efforts of Dean Smith, who replaced Brendan Rodgers as manager in April.
