Coup Flick Sweeps Korean Box Office

Historical epic “12.12 : The Day” has attracted more than 2 million viewers in less than a week since its release.The film, which follows the dramatic events of the 1979 coup that brought military dictator Chun Do-hwan to power after the assassination of strongman Park Chun-hee, hit the milestone on Monday.That was a day faster than “Smugglers” and “Concrete Utopia,” and became the fastest film to achieve the feat this year after “The Roundup: No Way Out,” which drew over 10 million moviegoers early this year.Starring Hwang Jung-min and Jung Woo-sung, the film is directed by Kim Sung-su, who is well known for “City of the Rising Sun” and “Asura: The City of Madness.”
