New research has uncovered the best broadband providers in the UK for 2024, including which one is the best value for money.
Internet access is one of the most important features for households, so having a provider that won’t result in outages or slow connections is crucial. However, it’s also worth knowing which may offer the best deal that won’t break the bank.
Findings compiled by the experts at Independent Advisor Broadband looked at factors like monthly cost, average speed and contract length to determine Britain’s providers with the fastest broadband and ones with no fixed contract. In first place was Plusnet, followed by Virgin Media, Vodafone and BT.
Gemma Ryles, home technology expert at Independent Advisor Broadband said: “Access to a robust and affordable broadband connection is not merely a modern convenience; it is the cornerstone of an empowered, connected society.

“In today’s digitally driven world, a good broadband deal is not just about streaming entertainment or browsing social media—it is the lifeline to education, employment, healthcare, and global information.”
Plusnet was given the top spot as it was the best provider in terms of value, with full fibre broadband deals for starting at £24.99 a month. Experts said the provider offers a good balance between speed and affordability,
Broadband providers with the highest speeds were also analysed, with Virgin Media found to be the best, promising to give customers users a minimum of 1Gbps or above. It offers a range of deals to cater to all internet needs, from working to steaming content and using several devices at once.
Typically, the most readily accessible high speed broadband in the UK is around 1Gbps, equivalent to 1,000Mbps, although certain providers may boast speeds surpassing this threshold. However, achieving the advertised speed is not guaranteed, so emphasis should be placed on the minimum speed.
The best Ofcom score was also examined, with BT and Vodafone topping this category, each achieving a score of 83 percent. These were followed once again by Plusnet and Virgin Media, who narrowly missed out on the top spot but still scored a respectable 82 per cent.
Broadband deals from BT star promise “super fast” fibre broadband for less than £1 a day, starting at £27.99 a month. Meanwhile, Vodafone is currently offering full fibre broadband plans from £25 a month, but this is only available until Tuesday, February 20.
Virgin Media was also revealed to be the best provider for mobile customers in terms of perks and rewards.
Gemma Ryles has also provided tips to keep in mind when looking for a broadband deal that suits you.
How to find the best broadband deal for your home
Location – Check the availability of broadband providers in your area. Some providers may offer better coverage and faster speeds in certain locations.
Cost – Compare the monthly costs of different broadband plans. Take into account any promotional rates, installation fees, and equipment costs. Be aware of any additional charges or hidden fees.
Speed – Consider the download and upload speeds offered by the broadband provider. Choose a speed that meets your usage requirements, whether it’s for basic browsing, streaming, online gaming, or working from home.
Contract Length – Determine the length of the contract. Some broadband deals come with long-term contracts, while others offer more flexibility with shorter terms. Be aware of any early termination fees if you decide to cancel before the contract expires.
Customer Service Ratings – Research and read reviews about the customer service reputation of the broadband provider. Good customer service can be crucial in resolving issues promptly and efficiently.
Data Limits and Fair Usage Policies – Check if the broadband plan has any data limits or fair usage policies. Some providers may throttle your speeds or charge extra if you exceed certain data thresholds.
Router and Equipment – Inquire about the type of router and other equipment provided by the broadband provider. Ensure that the equipment meets your needs and supports the speed you are paying for.
Sign-Up Perks Or Bonuses – Some providers offer sign-up perks, such as free installation, discounts, or promotional rates for the first few months. Take note of any additional benefits that come with signing up.
