How did Charlie Woods perform at U.S. Open qualifier? Tiger Woods’ son shoots 9 over, misses cut for golf major

Charlie Woods isn’t quite out of the woods just yet.

The 15-year-old son of Tiger Woods set out to qualify for the 2024 U.S. Open, participating in a local event in hopes of advancing to the next round of competition ahead of the prestigious tournament.

As the son of a golfing legend, one can only imagine the level of pressure on the high school student’s shoulders. With a name like Woods, his performance will end up being a topic of discussion, even if he’s only 15.

While Charlie Woods failed to qualify for the Cognizant Classic in February, he still attracted plenty of attention to his round in Florida. How did he perform at the pre-qualifier for the U.S. Open? The Sporting News has the answers.

Charlie Woods scorecard today

Woods shot a 9-over 81 in the U.S. Open local qualifying event at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The leader, Michael Buttacavoli, turned in a 3-under day, highlighting the difficulty of the course.

Woods struggled out of the gate Thursday, collecting a bogey and double-bogey on the first two holes. He managed just one birdie for the round, which came on the 5th hole. While he finished with three double bogeys and four bogeys, Woods did record a par score on 10 holes, so his day was far from a disaster.

Did Charlie Woods qualify for the U.S. Open?

Just the top five spots from Thursday’s event advancing to the final round of qualifying. So the 15-year-old did not qualify for the U.S. Open.

It marked the second time in recent history that Woods fell short in a pre-qualifying event, as he also failed to make it into the Cognizant Classic field in February. Still, not all hope is lost for the younger Woods, who did capture the Florida High School Athletic Association Class A state championship in November.

While he missed out on qualifying for this major, it doesn’t seem that it’ll be long before we see the young Woods competing at the top like his father.
