How to watch the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, featuring Santa and Cher

This year’s parade features 30 floats, 25 balloons, 17 musical performances, 9 marching bands, and a whole lot more.

It’s a short list of activities that are borderline essential to Thanksgiving: turkey, family, football, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The annual tradition is back again in 2023 and we’ve pulled together everything you need to know to ensure the parade is a part of your Thanksgiving festivities. The full parade lineup reads like a bloated “12 Days of Christmas,” minus the numerical consistency. This year, Macy’s will give you 30 floats, 29 clown crews, 25 balloons, 17 musical performances, 9 marching bands, 6 Balloonicles (balloons on wheels), and 1 Cher.

What time does the 2023 Thanksgiving Day Parade start?

The 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will get underway on Thursday, Nov. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in all time zones across the U.S.

How can I watch the 2023 Thanksgiving Day Parade?

The parade will air on NBC starting at 8:30 a.m. It will simultaneously stream on Peacock, with the broadcast lasting until noon. That 8:30 start time is half an hour earlier than the start time in recent years.

There will also be a Spanish-language telecast of the parade on Telemundo at the same time.

Who is hosting the 2023 Thanksgiving Day Parade?

The broadcasts on NBC and Peacock will be hosted by Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker. Meanwhile, on Telemundo, Carlos Adyan and Andrea Meza will host.

Who will be performing at the 2023 Thanksgiving Day Parade?

Like every year, the parade has pulled in alluring performers who will entertain throughout the morning. Cher will headline (rather, she’ll be as close to top billing as you can be when Snoopy and Santa are involved). The Oscar and Grammy winner will perform toward the end of the parade, heralding the arrival of the man in red. Additionally, Grammy-winner Jon Batiste will open the festivities.

The rest of the parade will include performances from Alex Smith, Amanda Shaw, Ashley Park, Bell Biv DeVoe, Chicago, David Foster and Katharine McPhee, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, En Vogue, Jessie James Decker, Manuel Turizo, Paul Russell, and Pentatonix. Oh, and Sesame Street muppets. They’ll be belting out some songs as well.

Details about where each performance will occur will be announced closer to Thanksgiving.

Are there any new balloons and floats to watch out for this year?

You know there are. The parade will feature 25 total balloons, seven of which are new to the parade in 2023. The new balloons include Po from Kung-Fu Panda, Beagle Scout Snoopy, Blue Cat & Chugs, Leo from Adam Sandler’s upcoming Netflix animated film Leo, Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece, Uncle Dan from Migration, and the Pillsbury Doughboy.

Those newbies will join grizzled balloon veterans like Grogu, Bluey, Spongebob Square Pants, Ronald McDonald, and, of course, Smokey the Bear.

The parade will also feature 30 floats. Five of those will be driving the streets of New York for the first time. Those first-timers include Camp Snoopy, Solo Stove’s Igniting Memories float, Brach’s Palace of Sweets float, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem float, and The Deliciously Delectable World of Wonka float promoting the new Wonka film that will be released in December.
