'Slippery' paddling pools to re-open to public

Four paddling pools deemed to have a “high risk” of people slipping in them will re-open to the public this summer.

Repairs have been carried out at the pools in Conwy, North Wales, since the announcement was made in April last year.

A safety audit was carried out at Craig y Don, Llanfairfechan, Penmaenmawr and Rhos on Sea, which found some areas to be “high slip risk”.

The repair work included applying a “specialist anti-slip coating to the surfaces”.

There are only five free public paddling pools in North Wales, four of which are in Conwy.

A council spokesperson said it had “invested heavily” in its pools to “ensure their future is secure”.

Cllr Aaron Wynne, Conwy’s cabinet member for culture and leisure, said the council understood the “disappointment caused last year”.

“I’d like to reassure residents that we’re committed to getting the work completed at all sites for the benefit of those living and visiting our county,” he said.

“We are pleased that we have been able to invest to protect the future of all four of our paddling pools and look forward to opening them for summer season 2024.”
