Russian troops are trying to break through the Ukrainian defense west of Bakhmut. But the Ukrainian military is thwarting these enemy plans, says Rustem Umerov, Ukrainian Minister of Defense.

“The situation is tense. The enemy is trying to push deeper into the positions of the Defense Forces, concentrating on a breakthrough west of Bakhmut. Despite the enemy’s numerical superiority, we are effectively disrupting these plans thanks to the courage, training and professionalism of the defenders, who successfully use modern technological systems to counter the enemy, who is trying to gain an advantage in manpower,” the minister said.

Umerov added that he had visited combat units in the Eastern sector that are repelling the aggressor and awarded servicemen who had distinguished themselves in heavy fighting.

The situation near Bakhmut

As stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Russians have been tasked with capturing the town of Chasiv Yar near Bakhmut by May 9. The capture of the city will create conditions for the enemy’s further advance toward the Kramatorsk agglomeration.

In addition, information about the seizure of the village of Bohdanivka in Bakhmut district was recently spread online. However, the Ministry of Defense denied this and said that Bohdanivka remains under the control of the Armed Forces, but there are heavy fighting there.

Read more about the situation at the front as of April 14 in the latest report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
