Senegal, Morocco Have Special & Long-Standing Relations (Macky Sall)

Diamniadio (Senegal) – Senegal has special and old-standing relations with Morocco, France, Saudi Arabia and the United States, Senegalese President Macky Sall said on Monday in Diamniadio, 30 km from Dakar.

“France, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and the United States” are the traditional partners of Senegal, Macky Sall said at a high-level panel, held as part of the 9th Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa.

“We have strong traditions, through special relations with France, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and the United States,” the Senegalese head of State underlined, describing these relations as traditional and old-standing.

He added that Senegal’s foreign policy is based on openness and win-win partnership “which preserves our traditional friendships and opens up to new trends within the framework of globalization to make the most of our relations with all other friendly countries”.

In this regard, Macky Sall praised the efforts of Senegalese diplomats to give substance to the vision of Senegal’s foreign policy.

Senegal is Morocco’s main economic partner in Africa and the first country to conclude a reciprocity agreement with the Kingdom.

Held under the theme “Africa’s potential and solutions to security challenges and institutional instability”, the 9th Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa kicked off on Monday in Diamniadio, with the participation of policy makers, experts and researchers from several countries.

The opening ceremony of this two-day meeting was chaired by Senegalese Head of State, Macky Sall, in the presence of Mauritanian President, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, Guinea-Bissau Prime Minister, Geraldo Jaoa Martins, Japanese Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs, Hori Iwao, ministers from Kosovo, Turkey, Germany and Rwanda, members of the Senegalese government, as well as the diplomatic corps accredited in Dakar, including HM the King’s Ambassador, Hassan Naciri.
