It is the first time Walgreens has closed stores on Thanksgiving.
WASHINGTON — Most Walgreens stores will be closed for Thanksgiving this year, the company announced Wednesday.
In a statement, Walgreens said 24-hour locations will remain open despite the changing policy. You can check the hours of stores near you using the company’s store locator.
It is the first time Walgreens has closed stores on Thanksgiving, allowing workers to spend the day with their loved ones.
“We know that this season comes with immense pressures to provide the highest level of healthcare and service from our pharmacies. Our change in operations this year is intended to acknowledge the dedication of our store team members and leadership, pharmacists and pharmacy techs who are working incredibly hard to deliver great customer and patient care. We’re grateful for all they do each day,” said Tracey Brown, the company’s chief customer officer, in a statement.
Stores closed for Thanksgiving will operate with regular hours on Wednesday and Friday.
The pharmacy chain is joining the growing trend of companies shutting their doors on Thanksgiving Day, even as they prepare to open up for doorbuster deals on Black Friday.
Other popular stores closed for the holiday include Best Buy, Home Depot, Target, Trader Joe’s and Walmart.
Because it’s a federal holiday, there are also a number of regular institutions that will be closed for Thanksgiving.
Post Office
As is the case with all federal holidays, the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail on Thursday, Nov. 23 in observance of Thanksgiving. Post offices across the U.S. will be closed for the holiday and mail delivery will be paused and resume Friday.
Stock market
The New York Stock Exchange observes U.S. holidays, so the stock market will be closed on Thanksgiving.
Government offices
State, local and federal offices are closed on Thanksgiving.

‘When did Milton Friedman die and become king?” asked presidential candidate Joe Biden in 2019. Verbal incapacity aside—presumably he meant to ask who died and made Friedman king—Mr. Biden’s use of the free-market economist’s name to signify the reigning consensus in economics was absurd as a representation of 21st-century political ...
