Honda inaugurates new assembly line at Gujarat plant
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today announced the inauguration of a new assembly line at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat. This is the third line at the facility, augmenting the production capacity by almost 650,000 units.
HMSI started production in 2001 from its first plant in Manesar (Haryana). In 2011, the company expanded to its second plant in Tapukara (Rajasthan). Its third plant came in Narsapura (Karnataka) in 2013 and the fourth plant in Vithalapur in 2016.
The Vithalapur facility is Honda’s largest scooter-only plant in the world. Models like the Activa (the largest-selling scooter in India), Dio, Activa 125 and Dio 125 are manufactured here.
The Vithalapur plant also has a dedicated engine line that serves as a base to manufacture global engines (for 250cc and above category two-wheelers) to serve international markets like Thailand, the US, Europe and Japan.
India is one of the most important production bases for Honda globally in two-wheeler manufacturing capacity. HMSI is also planning to enhance the female workforce in the manufacturing area.
HMSI recorded a handsome volume at 4,384,559 units in the calendar year (CY) 2023.
