What does the ideal sports car look like in 2024? That, unfortunately, has become a very tough question to answer, but Lexus, in their typical classy fashion, still has an unwavering answer we can’t help but praise. The 2024 Lexus LC500 and LC500 Hybrid models soldier on into 2024 still representing one of the most well-rounded full-size sports cars/grand tourers money can buy.
The Lexus LC remains one of the best all-around grand touring sports coupes available, with its ultra-reliable, naturally aspirated V-8, luxuriously appointed interior, drop-dead gorgeous exterior, and a lower price to entry than some of its heavy-hitter competitors.

A V-8 Powered Future Classic You Won’t Regret Buying
While the Lexus LC keeps things traditional, here’s why the flagship sports coupe has the essential ingredients that’ll make it a future classic
Engine Specifications And Performance
2024 Lexus LC engine Bay
Powertrain availability for the Lexus LC500h consists of a hybridized version of the familiar 3.5-liter V-6 providing smooth effortless power through its slightly complex transmission system. It consists of a CVT with six simulated gears combined with a four-speed traditional box, creating a 10-speed total transmission solution. Though it may not be as powerful as some competitors, the LC500h still puts down a respectable 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds, just shy of its V-8-powered brother.
Speaking of the V-8 brother, the LC500’s 5.0-liter naturally aspirated unit is an aural masterpiece that, in our opinion, is a star attribute of the Lexus LC experience. The delivery, sound, and reliability of the Lexus V-8 mated to a more traditional 10-speed automatic feels more like a sports car, whereas the hybrid seems like an exercise in technical skill.

A 4.7-second 0-60 sprint might not sound impressive on paper, but Lexus did a great job tuning the LC to feel emotional as a whole experience rather than just chasing numbers. The 10-speed auto works well here, giving you very quick shifts for a grand tourer, but not as quick as the very best sports cars, a line the LC has walked since its introduction. Its handling prowess has routinely impressed, besting some of the competition from England for years.

Interior Technology And Comfort
Close
The Lexus LC debuted with one of the most shockingly upscale interiors in its class (and above). It set the stage for future Lexus interiors, including the company’s flagship LS sedan. While it may not have the complete tech package as the LS, the LC put Lexus back on the interior luxury and design map.
Best Interior Features Of The 2024 Lexus LC500
- The sculptural interior design remains a standout feature of the LC500.
- Lexus’ trick moving driver instrument display elegantly combines race-inspired looks with critical metrics.
- Well bolstered, yet ultra-comfortable seats are a standout feature, rivaling the very best in the automotive industry.
- Lexus’ new (and existing) interior color themes impress with rich deep tones, giving a more luxurious experience.
Technology

Lexus now offers a clearer, more interactive 12.3-inch infotainment screen that is now a touchscreen, something Lexus has been late to introduce to their lineup until now. LC500 now includes a panoramic view monitor, creating a top-down view of the entire car, a feature many drivers use when maneuvering into tight spaces.

Safety And Reliability
The LC receives major updates in pedestrian safety with the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5. This system consists of a host of active safety features not typically found in sports cars, but rather, luxury sedans. Lexus routinely scores high reliability, taking first place in J.D. Power’s 2023 vehicle dependability study. With as few as 133 problems per 100 vehicles, Lexus leads the pack by a fair margin.
Driver Assistance Features
Lexus’ Safety System+ 2.5, new to LC, is a complete package of safety features designed with both pedestrians and vehicle occupants in mind.
Lexus LC Assistance Features Include:
- Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Tracking Assist
- Lane Departure Alert With Steering Assist
- Road Sign Assist
- All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Intelligent High Beams
IIHS Crash Testing
No IIHS Crash Testing is available for the Lexus LC at this time.
NHTSA 5-Star Safety Ratings
No NHTSA safety ratings are available for the Lexus LC at this time.
Warranties
The LC retains the standard Lexus warranty across all areas, with no special exclusions just because the LC is a sports car. A bumper-to-bumper warranty of 50,000 miles is fairly standard, but Lexus gives you four years to do so, where three years is typical. With a 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty, Lexus stands out here. Maintenance warranties or plans are becoming more popular with ICE drivers, and Lexus matches competitors with a year and 10,000 miles worth of free maintenance.

An Underrated Sports Car That’s The Next-Best Thing To The Lexus LFA
If you missed the bus with the limited-run V-10 powered LFA, find out why Lexus’ current flagship sports car makes for an excellent future collectible
2024 Lexus LC Versus Its Competitors
Lexus has targeted some heavy-hitting manufacturers with the LC. The grand tourer segment has been saturated for nearly the entirety of the automotive industry, so the LC had to be a success. Most of all, the LC had to follow in the footsteps of Lexus’ own, legendary LFA, but I digress.
The BMW 8-Series is perhaps the fiercest competition the LC could face with its multitude of trim options and highly successful lineage. Aston Martin has responded to many drivers preferring the Lexus to their DB11 by re-engineering that car almost completely to create the DB12, a car they now call a “super-tourer”. Things have heated up, once again putting pressure on Lexus.
How The Lexus LC Compares To The BMW 8 Series

2024 Lexus LC 2024 BMW 8 Series Model LC 8 Series Engine: 5.0-liter V-8 or 3.5-liter V-6 Hybrid 3.0-liter inline-6, 4.4-liter V-8 Torque 369-398 pound-feet 368-553 pound-feet Transmission 10-speed 8-speed automatic Driveline RWD RWD, AWD MSRP $98,450 $90,800 0-60 MPH 4.6 seconds 4.4-3.5 seconds Fuel Economy 19-29 MPG 19-25 MPG Horsepower 354-471 335-523 HP
BMW and Lexus are going head-to-head with the 8 Series and LC models. These competitors are the closest in price and with similar handling. Both grand tourers offer V-8 engine options. While the BMW has more powerful options, the Lexus has more character. BMW’s seriousness shows through, here, in a slightly more clinical fashion compared to the hollering 5.0-liter LC.
Both offer driving experiences that make them feel like they weigh far less than they actually do. For GT cars, this is no small feat. Where the BMW provides a rock-solid sporty drive, one that will impress with all-out performance, the LC is the one that gives you more giggles. Ultimately, it is up to each driver to decide if it is BMW performance they seek or Lexus entertainment.
How The Lexus LC Compares To The Aston Martin DB12

2024 Lexus LC 2024 Aston Martin DB12 Model LC DB12 Engine: 5.0-liter V-8 or 3.5-liter V-6 Hybrid Twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 Torque 369-398 pound-feet 590 pound-feet Transmission 10-speed 8-speed automatic Driveline RWD AWD MSRP $98,450 $248,086 0-60 MPH 4.6 seconds 3.3 seconds Fuel Economy 19-29 MPG 17 MPG (combined) Horsepower 354-471 671 HP
The problem lies in the aspect of authenticity. Sure, they are no stranger to utilizing components from competitors, but removing the (Aston Martin-built) V-12 from the David Brown series leaves the car settled into a more generic space.
This is where the Lexus LC shines. It’s more honest about its shortcomings but makes up for it with an unmatched suave character. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but for once, the Aston Martin might be the more boring choice, despite its far superior abilities. Also, that Mercedes-powered Aston costs an eyewatering $150,000 more.

With electrification looming, V-8s are being phased out, but the following models stick to good old combustion engines with eight cylinders
How Much Does A 2024 Lexus LC Cost?
The LC500 has always remained a performance/ grand touring bargain compared to most of its competition. However, things have become pricier with the introduction of a special edition called the “Inspiration Series”, unlocking specialty parts including a new set of lightweight wheels, a rear spoiler, special color combinations inside and out, and a black exterior trim package similar to BMW’s Shadowline trim. With its iconic design, the LC is destined to become a serious classic.

Fuel Economy
While the Lexus LC500 returns a relatively respectable 25MPG Highway (19MPG combined) the LC500h adds a full 10 MPG nearly across the board. Being powered by a (relatively) large 5.0-liter V-8, the LC500 might not return the same fuel economy as the LC500h, or other, smaller-engine, forced-induction competitors.

The LC clearly doesn’t care about trends and here’s why it remains a real Lexus with immense potential to be a future classic
Is It Worth Buying The 2024 Lexus LC?
The Lexus LC might not be the newest kid on the block, but it is one which maintains its sense of “cool”. Dynamically, on the road, it’s still one of the best, with sharp turn-in, and a fairly responsive chassis and gearbox, but never beating you up. It’s not a car that will make you work hard, but one that if you hustle it, even a little bit, will provide nearly endless emotion specifically in V-8 guise.
While the LC500h is still a fine vehicle, there are simply better hybrid options out there or even sporty all-ICE cars that obtain nearly the same MPG, but with a more exciting powertrain. We suggest going for the less expensive, more enthralling V-8 LC500.
