Amitabh Bachchan recounts how Lata Mangeshkar sparked his international concert career

In a heartwarming tribute to the legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan reminisced about a pivotal moment in his career that was directly influenced by the iconic songstress. Accepting the esteemed Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, Bachchan humbly expressed his disbelief at being considered ‘worthy’ of such an honor.

Yet, he revealed that it was the persistent efforts of Hridyanath Mangeshkar that convinced him to grace the event, apologizing for his absence the previous year due to purported illness.During his acceptance speech, Amitabh Bachchan shared an emotional anecdote from the past, shedding light on the genesis of his foray into international concert performances. Reflecting on an encounter with Lata Mangeshkar in 1981 during a visit to New York, Bachchan recounted how the night unfolded unexpectedly.

Lata Mangeshkar, seeking Amitabh Bachchan’s brief presence to introduce her on stage, inadvertently kickstarted a new chapter in his career.

As Amitabh Bachchan was about to leave the event, Lata Mangeshkar, intrigued by rumors of his recent song in the film ‘Laawaris,’ implored him to perform it live. With little hesitation, Bachchan complied, singing the evergreen track “Mere Angne Mein.” The audience’s ecstatic response served as an epiphany for Amitabh Bachchan’s friend, who predicted a future filled with international concerts for the megastar.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan has the most awaited ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ in the pipeline.
