another pandemic? video from beijing, china shows ‘mask wearing’ crowd in hospital
A video coming out of China shows mask-wearing people crowding inside a hospital amid fears over a mystery pneumonia sweeping the country. Beijing, however, has insisted that the new virus is not to blame for the chaos, the Daily Mail reported on Monday.
Residents have reportedly been asked to work from home, maintain social distance and wear masks – measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
“Footage from a hospital in Beijing shows mask-wearing crowds piling into an hospital amid fears over mystery pneumonia sweeping China. Beijing insists a new virus is not to blame for scenes of chaos, which have prompted officials to encourage residents to don coverings, socially distance and stay home if unwell,” a user on X, platform formerly known as Twitter, said.

China’s health ministry has claimed that it can cope with the spike in sickness. “WHO has made an official request to China for detailed information on an increase in respiratory illnesses and reported clusters of pneumonia in children,” the World Health Organization (WHO) said in a press release.
It added that Chinese authorities from the National Health Commission reported an increase in incidence of respiratory diseases in China on November 13.
“Chinese authorities attributed this increase to the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions and the circulation of known pathogens such as influenza, mycoplasma pneumoniae (a common bacterial infection which typically affects younger children), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19),” WHO added.
