Eddie Hearn hits back at journalist for Conor McGregor question following Taylor win

Eddie Hearn shut down questions over Conor McGregor following Katie Taylor’s world title victory over Chantelle Cameron in Dublin.

Taylor secured victory in a remarkable rematch on Saturday night and is now a two-weight undisputed world champion having taken Cameron’s WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine super-lightweight titles.

It followed a night of chaos in the Irish capital on Thursday with violent protests taking place across the city following a knife attack that saw three children and one woman stabbed outside a primary school earlier in the afternoon.

McGregor made a string of incendiary posts following the incident, criticising the government’s reaction and has been accused of stoking anti-immigrant sentiment via his social media platform.

McGregor’s Forged Stout was one of the sponsors of Saturday night’s fight at the 3Arena.

The former UFC champion was in attendance in the first meeting between Taylor and Cameron in May but was not present this weekend.

In a post-fight press conference, journalist Sean McGoldrick quizzed Taylor’s promoter Hearn on Matchroom Boxing’s relationship with McGregor and his company in the wake of his comments this week.

Hearn hit back: ‘You had to do it, didn’t you? I have to tell you this: I’m so bored of talking about it. All you ever do is look for a negative.

‘Conor McGregor is Conor McGregor. I don’t represent him, I don’t talk about his comments. He has a brand that has backed the sport of boxing.

‘It has nothing to do with Katie Taylor, the show, the company. His opinions are his opinions. Tonight, we celebrate one of your greatest ever athletes. No more questions about Conor McGregor.’

Further pushed, Hearn added he would answer the journalist’s question later on – but not in the presence of Taylor.

‘Then you can ask me away from the press conference. You can ask me afterwards. I’ll answer it. Not in front of Katie Taylor.

‘This is her night and congratulations to one of the greatest athletes I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.’

Taylor lost to Cameron in what was her first professional fight back on Irish soil in October but turned in a sublime display in a fight of the year candidate last night.

A trilogy fight now beckons with Taylor and Hearn eager to bring it to Dublin’s 80,000-seater Croke Park.
