Seahawks' Grubb 'Really Excited' to Work With WR Corps

The Seattle Seahawks offense will have a new chief at the wheel in Ryan Grubb, who will be the offensive coordinator under first-year coach Mike Macdonald.

Grubb, who was the assistant head coach/ offensive coordinator for the Washington Huskies (2022-2023), is ready to get down to work with his new players. But there are a few who have already grabbed his attention as Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Tyler Lockett, and D.K. Metcalf have him excited to get to work.

“They’re amazing,” Grubb said. “I’m excited. I’m really excited. I think those guys are focal points of the offense and I think they’re smart, tough and dependable guys, and I think that the sky’s the limit when you got some guys like that, and you throw (Jake) Bobo in there and the rest of the room. I think there’s a lot of weapons that can be utilized there.”

The Seahawks have arguably one of the best receiving corps in the league, headlined by Metcalf, who has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in three of his last four years.

Metcaldf along with Smith-Njigba and Lockett are a trio that made up a significant portion of the offense under former coordinator Shane Waldron. They were the top three for yards, targets, and receptions on the team last season. After Smith-Njigba (ranked third in all categories), there was a huge drop-off.

After Smith-Njigba (63 rec, 628 yards), the next-best offensive player was tight end Noah Fant (32 rec, 414 yards) and the next-best receiver was rookie Jake Bobo (19 rec, 196 yards).

Grubb knows that getting his star trio in the action will be crucial to the offense’s success. The same goes for getting the run game going with Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet, as the pair have the potential to be an improved dynamic duo next season.

This will be Grubb’s first NFL coaching job. Taking over a Seahawks offense that has two Pro Bowl receivers in Metcalf and Lockett, coupled with young stars in Walker, Smith-Njigba, and the rising Bobo, it’s no wonder why he’s excited to get to work.
